Yes, it's finally here! I hope you enjoy the new look and feel.

First things first: Please remember to review your member profile and especially your avatar to make sure it reveals clearly on the site. Anyone who uploaded a stock avatar from the site will have to re-upload that avatar, as all have been replaced with larger ones. If you uploaded your own avatar, it may very well appear blurry on the site if it was any smaller than 300 x 300 pixels, so you may need to re-upload it as well. All avatars must now be at least 300 x 300 pixels (and square) to view at their best on the new site.

Second: Please be aware that, while most content is now properly placed on the site, I will be editing the blog and forums sections over the next few weeks to add title images at the top (of the most recent blog posts only) and to fix any formatting errors that cropped up during the transition (on all blog and forum posts). Please be patient with me as I work through this very tedious process.

Third: I welcome your feedback, comments, and questions about the site, but in order to keep that process streamlined, please post them in the comments area below this post. (Please do not email me, as I would like everyone to benefit from any questions and answers.) And before asking questions, be sure to read this start-up post about some of the key changes made to the site. It could be that your question is already answered there.

Thanks! And have fun!

HEADS UP: Some of you (noaa, bobbibakes, and others) have reported trouble logging into the site/your new member profiles. You receive error messages when trying to access the email confirmation link before logging in.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are having similar troubles, I and others have reported the issue, so it is being worked on. BUT please do report the issue (in the link provided in any error message received) to Hoop.la, my site host, so they can more rapidly diagnose the issue.

THANKS!

The site looks A-M-A-Z-I-N-G Julia! Love it! Gorgeous layout filled with amazing large works of art. All the information is clearly identified and at our finger tips. I feel like Christmas came early with a brand new resource. Thank you for all your hard work.

Thank you Juliaaaaaaaaaaa!  Now I have to swim through and be oriented   lol.....

BTW, I wasn't able to log in either.  I clicked on the confirmation and nothing.  I waited...

Back to email and I had two more (three total) notifications to confirm.

I waited.  Clicked.   Bingoooo!    lol  I was in.

Gona try to post pics   (arched brows!).  smiling

Grumbling and telling myself    change is a good thing!  bah humbug!   smiling    !!!!

Yes, as noted above, there was a small bug with the login process this morning. Everyone was affected, but it has now been corrected.

Hi Julia,

Where do I find my original photo clips in my profile? Thanks Cindy

Good question! They are still there, just in a slightly different place. Go to your profile, click on "Activity" under your avatar and then on "Content". Any content you've posted to the site (clips, blog posts, etc.) should reveal in that one spot. See the screen shot for my profile; I post a lot of non-clip content to the site, so naturally I have blog posts and other things in that activity stream, but your stream is all clips and a forum post, as far as I can see.

It will take a while to get used to the new places things are, but it looks great! .

I will miss being able to click on images to see a larger pic, though.

I see the default for comments on clips is for them to be displayed newest at the top. It's good you can manually change that to oldest. I like to read the comments before the replies to the comments. I only wish I could set that as a personal default

LeeLowe - I'm a little confused by your comments, because you can still click on any image on the site and see a larger view. If you click on any photo in the clip stream, you will automatically be taken to the original upload in the largest possible view. If you click on any clips in any of the galleries, the same will happen. And if you click on any photo in any blog post, it will also enlarge and be viewable in gallery/slide show mode along with all the other images in the post. So I don't believe any functionality was lost here. But let me know what I am missing.

As for viewing comments, I'm grateful there is now the ability for anyone to sort them however they want, as I personally like to see the newest comments first and we did not have that ability before. The code required to allow every person to set her own default is pretty complex, so that won't be implemented in the near future. The reason "newest" comments was set as the default is because usability studies indicate that most people prefer to view that way - most people visit their posts more than once, and once they've seen the original comments, they don't want to see them again at the top of the comments. But, again, the sort is there so you can view however you want.

Teri, Have you refreshed your browser and tried logging in all over again? It could be that you have old screens cached on your site.

If so, then I need to know more information. Specifically, I need you to send screen shots of what you tried to do AND the error message received when you did it. Neither I nor my site guys can help without more information than "still having trouble." For instance, what link did you click to do what? Did you receive an email with a verification link from the site or not? If you did and clicked on it and got an error, what was that error?

Again, it's impossible to diagnose the issue without more information, especially when the trouble noted above has been resolved for everyone else, as far as I can tell.

Thanks! I await more information. You can email it to me at sweetlife@juliausher.com.

Julia, now I'm confused.

Yes, on the home page I can click on a image and be taken to the clip page.

I see it works as you described on blog posts, like the Saturday Spotlight. Clip pages used to be like that too. Are they still supposed to be?

I cannot click on the uploaded image on the clip page and see it at the larger size except for image attachments which do open up in the lightbox/slideshow view. The slideshow however will only show me the attachment pic and will not display any other photos. Is this what should happen?

The slideshow also does not resize the image to fit my tablet in portrait mode but seems okay in landscape (although maybe the image is small enough to fit).

I noticed also a pic I uploaded that was 1200 pixels wide, but when downloaded it, is now 1000 pixels.

If by Clip pages, you mean this page (https://cookieconnection.juliausher.com/clips), then, yes, you can still click on any of these images (just as you could before) and you will be taken to the original clip post that is in the largest possible size. If by Clips pages, you mean an original clip post (such as this: http://cookieconnection.juliau...ountiful-harvest-bkg), then you can't click on the primary image and blow it up any further (on a laptop), because it is already at its maximum possible size on the site. I don't believe you could ever do this before; or at least I never could. HOWEVER, if you are viewing on an iPad or most tablets, you can still zoom in and zoom out on an entire screen and thus see any image even larger.

The attachments under an image or in a blog post were all that could ever be shown in slide show mode (except for home page trending widgets which were always in slide show mode), and nothing has changed here.

Yes, the site automatically resizes images that are bigger/wider than the maximum viewing pane on the site (1000 pixels) to 1000 pixels. So if you download the image again from the site, you'll get a slightly compressed version of it if you uploaded something larger. This was always the case, even with the old site.

As for the slideshow not being resized to fit your tablet in portrait mode, you'd have to send me screenshots of the issues you're having and also the name of your tablet. I tested the site extensively on three devices (and my site hosts did so on many others) and no problems have been encountered here. That's not saying there aren't any, but I would need more info to help diagnose any possible troubles. Please remember that if someone has uploaded a small image to start, the site will not blow it up (it never did). The maximum size that is revealed is constrained by width of viewing panes on the site or the maximum size that the member uploaded. BUT AGAIN, if you are viewing on an iPad or most tablets, you can still zoom in and zoom out on an entire screen and thus see any image even larger though perhaps with some loss of resolution.

So in short, very little has changed with respect to how images are viewed other than the initial display size and crop of clips. All clips now show larger on the thumbnail page (https://cookieconnection.juliausher.com/clips), but they have all been cropped to the same size. You must click on an image on this page to get the full reveal on the original clip post, as I described in the site startup post.

Thanks for your explanation Julia. I did mean the original clip post. I get email notifications of all posts and usually go straight to the clip post from the email link. I was able to click on the image and see it at the original size (as opposed to the display size) which was great if it was a large image. Sounds like that wasn't an intended feature and it's now behaving like it's supposed to

I'm sorry too, because I don't know what you mean by the yellow bar at the top that says you have to confirm your email. You will need to send me a screen shot of the actual error message for us to assist. I'll tell my site guys that you are specifically having trouble verifying your address in order to access your profile, but I know they will ask me all the same questions I just asked you above. As far as uploading the larger avatar, you can easily upload one of the stock avatars on the site that is already at the right size to avoid making one of your own. But you need to get into your profile and edit it to do this (as I described above), and you can't get into your profile until we fix the first trouble (until you can login). I have no idea what type of device you have, but if you Google "how to take a screenshot on [INSERT YOUR DEVICE]", this should help get us the screenshot that would assist my site guys. Hope this helps!

I'll ask if the site ever worked this way (I never clicked on images at that level to view them larger, so I never thought we had that functionality and I know we do not now). But please note that the viewing pane there has increased some anyway, so I'm not sure how much we'd gain by being able to click on them and blow them up further. Further, any custom changes to this site at this point come at considerable cost, and would only be implemented if others felt a burning need.

In the meantime, I've told my site support that you can't edit your profile as you are having trouble verifying your email address. I have also changed your profile image to one of the stock avatars. You can change it to something else later once you are able to edit your profile.

Two last questions: (1) If that yellow box is an error message, which is what I think it may be, then there should be a link in it that would take you directly to my site support team, where you can file a trouble report. They could then perhaps walk you through what needs to be done more easily than I can, since they have much more technical expertise than me. You should report the trouble to them if you have not already. Have you?

(2) Can you email me privately (for security reasons) with the email address that you think is attached to your account on Cookie Connection? It could possibly be that you think it is one thing, but it is something else. I can confirm what it is, but don't want to do that in a public forum.

Just the slideshows. Everything else is resizing perfectly.

Great job on the upgrade. Just like anything else, it will take time to get used to. I really like the larger pictures. I do miss seeing the pics and being able to "like" or "comment" on them without having to go all the way into the pic. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong. LeeLow, you are right. You once could click on images at the original post level and enlarge them (if they were uploaded larger), but they discontinued that feature on this upgrade, because not many people used it (including me). But I noted your desire and they are evaluating whether to add it back in a future upgrade. As I may have noted elsewhere, there are no additional resources available to me to do any more custom redesigning of the site for quite a while, so we need to live with the feature set here for a while unless Hoop.la decides to re-implement at no cost to me. Hopefully the improvements will offset the negatives of any things people see missing.

They are looking into the portrait viewing issue you are experiencing on your device. If that's a bug, it will be fixed. Will let you know when I know.

Teri - So I had site support look into your particular situation late last night. We have assumed that your issue is that you cannot verify your email in order to edit your profile, but without screen shots from you, we still don't know exactly where you are having trouble in that process. So this is what they had to say:

They can see that a verification email (or emails) were sent to you, and they can also see some evidence that you tried to click some links on those emails, but you did so on emails that were expired. The emails and the links within them are only good for one hour after being sent, which is for security reasons so that no one else can hack your account. This is likely why the process was not working for you: you were clicking old emails.

So what you need to do is:

1. Delete all old verification emails that you received from the site (so as not to confuse them with new ones)

2. Re-try the process of updating your profile; this should trigger another verification email to be sent to you

3. Within ONE HOUR of issuing the request, find that new email with the subject "Please authorize a request to edit your member profile" and click the authorization ""CONFIRM REQUEST" link in it. (Again, you must do this within one hour, or the link will become invalid and not work.) Then you should be able to enter your profile and update it.

4. If you scroll down your profile, you will see a section called "Profile Picture/Avatar" (See screen shot of MY profile for an example, attached) right under the location field.

5. If you click on "Choose Stock Avatar" next to it, you can select any of the site avatars that are already properly sized to replace the one I selected for you yesterday. If you want to use your own, it should be no less than 300 x 300 pixels.

6. When in your profile you may want to edit other things (I don't know, but you can). The site should also ask you to re-confirm your agreement to its Terms of Service. Just review them and say yes. Then save the profile and all should be good.

If this does not work, then I will need more specific details about what did or did not work along the way (and screen shots) in order for my site guys to help you, and I will likely also refer you directly to site support for additional help.

However, I am confident that this process will work as it has worked for me and many others ever since the fix made yesterday morning, and I have no outstanding trouble reports from anyone else on this issue.

But please let me know one way or the other, as it is important for members to be able to update their profiles on a routine basis.

Thanks!

Sorry, I had that clips page (meaning this one: https://cookieconnection.juliausher.com/clips) set to another viewing mode because the viewing mode that allowed liking without clicking on the image was not working properly at the time of launch. It now is, and so I've changed to that viewing mode as you will now see if you click on that link.

If you click on the like button under the image, you can like an image without opening it. But you do have to click on the image to comment - this really isn't much different than before because the click on the past site still required the opening of a new editing/commenting window. So there is still an opening of one window involved to comment. Also to know, if there are already comments on an image, you can click on "Comments" which will jump you very close to the comment editing box so less scrolling will be needed to locate the comment box.

I hope this does the trick for you.

in reference to the discussions on primary image size and not being able to click on image for pop-up larger size...

I seen to recall being able to do this under the old system, but doesn't really matter now so let's talk about the new system behavior. the system is capable of displaying a much larger image then the primary image displayed. I like to add attachments to my primary image to keep projects in orderly sets...as a test, I uploaded the exact same file as a primary image then as an attachment. when I clicked on the attachment image, it appears twice as large as the displayed primary image. see set http://cookieconnection.juliau...iful-harvest-platter for this test.

personally, I used the enlarge image feature alot! love studying the details!

Yes, as I noted above, this feature did exist and was removed in this upgrade for reasons of minimal use. But my site guys are looking into reinstating it; I cannot pay to have them reinstate it, however. This is simply beyond my budget.

As also noted, if anyone adds a larger image as an attachment and it is clicked on, it will also display in the size originally uploaded .

So, yes, you are correct that this is one possible way to provide a larger view to members if this is something you want to do as a workaround because the primary image no longer blows up.

Nice outcome! Different but still familiar, I guess like other people I will need my time to find my way around

But one question to start with - is it intentional that the drop down menues are hardly accessible from a tablet (Surface 2 in this case), or is it just my device, or am I doing something wrong? I am hardly able to navigate to the single points, e.g. my alerts. The drop down box just keeps dissapearing as soons as I try to slide my finger down...

No, of course not. The drop down menus are all easily accessible on my iPad. The main navigation is, however, located in a different place on tablets - it's displayed as a series of bars in either the upper right or left. Once I open it, I have no difficulty whatsoever in clicking on any item and opening any drop-downs within an item (say in the "About" section, for instance). But I am not sliding my figure across the dropdown. I am simply touching the item I want to open, then the dropdown menu stays open until I touch the area within it that I want to open. Have you tried just touching items and not sliding your fingers across entire areas; it could be that you're confusing the command by touching too many different areas at once?

Try that and let me know if it works. Also, please let me know if any lingering issue is isolated to any one dropdown or is it all of them across the entire navigation bar. Once I have more information, I can better determine if this is an issue that needs reporting to tech support.

Try that and let me know if it works. Also, please let me know if any lingering issue is isolated to any one dropdown or is it all of them across the entire navigation bar. Once I have more information, I can better determine if this is an issue that needs reporting to tech support.

OK, I seem to get the hang of it. If I leave my finger on the main topic long enough for my tablet to open the browser bar, the drop down menue stays open and I can chose the required sub-topic

A little different from what it used to be, but no big deal.

Thanks for your quick reply!

Great! Yes, you definitely don't want to slide through options on the mobile device views (from what I have experienced); it's a distinct lifting and placement of finger (tapping of your selection) that will open things up.

not sure if i will explain or word my problem correctly

before i could scroll through top ten  new pics  and challenges       it doesn't seem to do it now

before i could open the set/s and like and comment     and i would be taken back to the clip set/s              now i have to go to home and reopen

wondering if i'm the only one with this issue      if i'm doing something wrong       if this is the new design

now i have to know how to get back to my question/s  lol

Dona, I'm having trouble understanding your issues. You can still scroll through the top 10 images in the home page gallery - you can also click on the "all photos" link directly under the gallery and it will take you to a page with thumbnails (this page: http://cookieconnection.juliau...ENDING_OVER_LAST_DAY) that shows you all the top cookies of the day in rank order, which you can quickly scroll through.

You can also still open any clip set on the site (just by clicking on the name of the clip set in the side menu or in any tag, wherever you see such tags on the site) and you will see all photos in that clip set without having to return to the home page. Here's an example of what I see when I clicked on the "airbrushed" clip set in the tag on an image, for example: http://cookieconnection.juliau.../air-brushed-cookies

You can also go to "Clips" in the main navigation line and click on "All Sets" in the dropdown menu, and get a listing of all of the clip sets in one place. If you click on any of the images, it will then take you quickly to all of the images in that clip set.

None of this functionality has changed; it may just look a little different as some displays have images now as links (like the one mentioned in the paragraph above) and not just text links.
