I'm always curious if I'm the only one- but every time I have a great movie cookie set to do I just HAVE to watch the movie while I'm decorating! Toy Story, Monsters Inc, and Wreck it Ralph to name a few! Lol.

And if it's not a movie my iPad is blasting Pandora! Frank Sinatra, 90s, and Jack Johnson radio!

What about you? What do you do while you decorate??

If Im doing a set like monsters Inc.  Yes, I do watch the show...if its a Disney movie I put the music of the movie on really really loud and get inspired. I also love to dance and bake. Music makes me happy and so does baking.

I tend to like no distraction, no music, no nothing if I'm in the middle of designing a cookie or doing complicated piping.

But if I'm doing mindless outlining and flooding or easy border work, then I most always have Bravo on in the background. Can't tell you how many (of the same) episodes of Housewives I've seen - too many to count! My vice, for sure.

I normally like silence only because I get easily distracted but on late nights when I'm killing myself trying to stay awake I'll put some music on. Lately my jam has been Follow You Follow Me by Genesis. Such a great song!

For some strange reason...(Many of my friends have even asked me about this habit) I like to listen to Big Band music while I am making the colored icing...not sure why...then it's usually pandora or something on my iPod (I am pretty eclectic when it comes to music...I love 90's alternative, current pop, country, jack johnson, etc). BUT I MUST have music on!! ALSO, I cannot talk while I am piping!! lol! How about you all? can you talk while you're piping??

Classical music on low or silence when designing.  Classical music or something a bit more upbeat when decorating.  Something with a bit of a kick to it if it is late at night and I am trying to keep momentum going,  Most though, classical music.

I'm like Gigi I forget myself in my work.

I stay very focused, try not to get frustrated when I have to roll and reroll  something out 5 times before I have gotten it right. Since I am new to this and don't mass produce every time I sit down it is a learning experience.

So it's mostly quiet and then I think, "Why aren't you listening to music" and I turn on Carly Simon,Elton John, Jame Taylor, the Beegees and when I really really need some inspiration it's gotta be Pavarotti. ( That's my Italian roots)

LOL, I dance and sing while I'm piping! I get bored in the chair and my mom and I are definitely known for some shenanigans while we're decorating!

Sometimes I'll put on some music (usually classic rock), and sometimes I just like absolute quiet. What I do NOT like is when my husband sits down whle I'm decorating and wants to talk. I get into a zone when I decorate, and resent having to come out of that zone to be social. I love him, but he just doesn't get it!

I live in a small condo at the coast - no special baking room - so I am at the dining room table when decorating.  I try to do it when no one is around to bother me...and if they are in the living area watching television, I put on headphones and listen to my mp3 player.  I put my music on shuffle so I get everything from Enya to the Beatles to Led Zeppelin to new age stuff you might hear during a massage!  (I was a teen in the 70s so I tend to like classic rock 'n' roll!)  When I'm planning and designing, I want quiet.  When I sit down to get started on the work of decorating - I always want music.  Also want music when baking!

I have to have music on. It drowns out the household noise.  I have my ipod on shuffle ... and occassionally I am held hostage by a Christmas song or kids' music while I'm mid-cookie and I can't change it!

I totally hold my breath too!! Lol. and I hate when ppl try to talk to me while I'm working, but the worst, worst, worst is when people touch me while I'm working! My husband and my mother are both great ones for coming up behind me and putting their hands on my shoulder!! Arg!

Kathy - I TOTALLY sympathize with you - my husband is really good at that too!

For me, I sit at my island and have the music playing on the iPad.  How did we ever do without them I wonder sometimes! I can easily get distracted, and I definitely hold my breath with piping, One  day I swear  hubby will find me on the floor with the icing bag still clutched in my hand!

I'm a stay at home mom of the most demanding/busy/nosy/noisy/precocious three year  old twin boys! Lol.  So this is what is going on while I'm decorating:
Pipe first dot of icing, child 1 runs up to me screaming, "he took my spiderman!"  Return toy.  Sit back down and pipe one outline. Child two runs up, "he hit me." Put child one in time out. Sit back down uYand fill one cookie. Child two returns, "me want milk." Get milk. Sit down and pipe one detail. Forgot about child one in time out. Set him free. Sit down and pipe another outline. Child one, "me want milk too." Get more milk. Sit down and start to do something but....where is my icing bag? Chase child two and get back icing then clean mess.  Mommy needs a time so hides in bathroom and stares and beautiful cookies. Both boys look under the door and ask why I'm in the bathroom. Start to bang on door. That's them now. Got to go!

LOL!!!!!!!

Donna I leave in the same world! If I decide to decorate while my two toddler boys are awake then it's realy hard!Maybe one is hanging from my neck and the other on my back while I try to outline a cookie!!!

I prefer to decorate when they are sleeping which means decorating after midnight!Though it's very relaxing!

I listen to Pandora or my ipod, and if I know what I'm doing or am doing the dreaded mixing of colors- will I ever be able to settle for fewer than 6?!?- than I watch TV on my kitchen computer- Elementary, Major Crimes, Castle- maybe that new Syfy show.  I definitely work mainly at night- I have two small boys too!

Must have music...I look forward to cleaning my kitchen, getting my cookie space all ready and then I turn on Pandora or Slacker and I can decorate for hours!!

I'm entering into empty nest...I don't think I could have done it w/ my littles running around...KUDOS to all of you who do!

Donna, that sounds like me just a few years ago!  I am also primarily a SAHM...my boys are 8, 6 and 6 (twins).  My days are usually full of errands, gym, housework, shuttling to practices.  My decorating time comes when the kiddos are in bed and I tend to watch TV while I do cookies.

I tend to get very easily distracted so I have to just focus in silence- I have to listen to my iPod if I want music because if I tried listening to music on my laptop I would get distracted by the internet! Too much tumblr and reddit, I'm so bad for spending hours just scrolling through them...
