My mom is going to be retiring from a mortuary March 30 and she has asked me to make caskets and hearses ( ? spelling) - yes, funny and a bit morbid I know. Anyway, I did find a hearse cookie cutter. I have a design planned in my head, but I haven't done it "for real" yet! I am adding a pic of the hearse in attachments. My plan is to make the body of the hearse a dark blue as that is the color of the company's hearse. What I'm not sure how to do is the windows. My thoughts are to make them white or gray using royal icing and then when they are dry brush them with silver luster dust. Will this work, am I on the right track? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Anyone with help could you post here plus email me with your idea - lovegrdn5@netscape.net

Thanks again!

I did a class with Arty McGoo and she showed me her truck cookie.  For the windows she used cakecraft sparkle gel.  It dries and gives a glassy look.  I could only find the colored gel, but it dries nearly clear.  I used the gel on my Jeep cookies and was very pleased.  Please post your cookies when you are done.

Use a silicone mat.  Pipe a good solid outline of royal icing.  Let it dry.  Fill in the outline with crushed hard candy that matches the window color you are going for.  Bake in the oven on a low temp untill the candy melts.  Let cool.  Remove carefully. I did this years ago for gingerbread house windows.  Plan on making some practice ones to get the right baking temp and time.
