December 2015

Hi, all! Well, Practice Bakes Perfect Challenge #13 was such a resounding success (read the recap here ) that I decided to invite members to submit background and banner photos for consideration at any time. I would love to continue to feature members' cookies in these areas for as long as Cookie Connection exists! In addition to keeping the site looking its best, this approach should also bring more visibility to your work. To facilitate the submission process, I've opened up a new clip set...Read More...

Sugar Stamps

Forum: Suppliers
Hi all!  I've just become a US distributor for Sugar Stamps.  I saw them online, fell in love, and had to have them!  They're design sheets made specifically for meringues but I've found that they work beautifully with candy melts also.  You can make little candy kisses, bark, lollipops, covered oreos..... The designs are beautiful and they're so easy to use! Through my experiments I haven't found a way to get them to work with royal icing yet.  They need heat to...Read More...

If you haven't yet picked up the latest Food Network Magazine (the December 2015 issue, pictured below), you might just want to do so! Apparently back in August, a Food Network editor challenged cookie decorators across the country to decorate Christmas cookies inspired by their home states, and the result was a festive seven-page cookie spread published just last week. Sneak peek, below! What's even cooler is that this feature showcased several Cookie Connection members, including...Read More...

Welcome to the NEW Cookie Connection! Q&A Forum!

Julia M. Usher
Yes, it's finally here! I hope you enjoy the new look and feel. First things first: Please remember to review your member profile and especially your avatar to make sure it reveals clearly on the site. Anyone who uploaded a stock avatar from the site will have to re-upload that avatar, as all have been replaced with larger ones. If you uploaded your own avatar, it may very well appear blurry on the site if it was any smaller than 300 x 300 pixels, so you may need to re-upload it as...Read More...

Say Hello to January's Header and Background!

Julia M. Usher
Hi, gang, I'm back for a few days before leaving again for the New Year, and so I wanted to get a jumpstart on January by posting this month's banner and backdrop! This striking duo of snowflakes was designed as part of our recent Practice Bakes Perfect Challenge #13 by the talented Rebecca Weld of The Cookie Architect , and it will be gracing our site until January 31, 2016 (lucky us!), when our February winner takes over. As a reminder, each of our monthly winners will be featured in an...Read More...

Cookie Capers
I live in SC where the weather has changed in dramatic swings for a couple of weeks now. For example, it was in the 50°'s a few days ago and today it's a VERY wet, humid 79°! I write all this to say that I had decorated a few last minute cookies and used the dehydrator for a few hours to help with the humidity as I normally do. I turned it off and left them inside overnight. This morning the icing was discolored in places. And also darkened up quite a bit. I've never had this happen. Any ideas?Read More...

Loading Time of New and Top Photos

It has been a while since I have logged in here and it looks very different. I am trying to familiarize myself with the new look and have found myself frustrated by having so few photos of the great work done by members of this site available before you have to hit "load more" and only get a handful more before again having to do the same. A thumbnail option showing many more photos at once would be great. Also, in my impatience for wanting to see more photos, I have a couple of times...Read More...

Okay, so they're not cookies, but they still come bearing a sweet sentiment!  Thanks to everyone who contributed to making Cookie Connection such an active and beautiful community this year. May you all have a holiday season filled with sweetness - and maybe a chocolate wreath or two along with your cookies!  P.S. I'll be on vacation and tending to some family matters until January 2, 2016, so I will be resuming site activities, including the next Saturday Spotlight, on...Read More...

Hi, all, from time to time, I'll be posting lesser known gems about the new site in "Did You Know?"-type updates, with the goal of getting us all better acquainted with its full (and expanded) functionality. Here's the first! Did you know that uploading video to our new site is easier and better than ever? In the past, you could only upload videos that were 100MB or less, which resulted in lots of lost resolution, especially for large videos. Videos were also automatically given a...Read More...
FYI, all: Please know that I am aware that commenting on photos on the site is currently more difficult than it was before, and that I am actively working with to try to get the following two issues addressed: Not able to comment on clips at the clip thumbnail level (without opening the clip) Not able to easily return to jumping-off point on the clip thumbnail page (i.e., once you open and comment on a clip, if you hit the back bar on your browser or backtrack through...Read More...

Important Chat Room Formatting Changes

Julia M. Usher
Hi, all, we just completed three significant changes to the chat rooms, all designed to make chatting easier for you and moderators! First, the live chat viewing window has been moved to the top of all chat pages primarily to reduce the amount of scrolling needed to moderate the chats. To do this, the  chat descriptions had to be diminished on the site - but they are still there and accessible to you!  So now, for instance, when you click on a chat room, like this one for...Read More...
Just a heads up: My site guys "fixed" a navigation issue today, which has since caused some formatting issues in the drop-down menus in the main navigation line. Specifically, the font has changed to a very small size and has been centered. In addition, some text under the "Forums" tab is also blowing beyond the bounds of the drop-down menu boxes. All of the links work just fine, but the formatting issues make it harder to navigate the menus, I realize. Anyway, just an alert to let you know...Read More...

Frosting OVER Printed Design

Cookie goddesses, please help me!! I have received a last minute order that wants script under a picture on a square cookie. Obviously, it would be a lot faster to be able to "trace" the script...Can I print on rice or wafer paper, adhere to dried royal icing, and then PIPE over the design? I'm terrified the whole thing will fall off...and these cookies are for my local chamber of commerce, so I need to put out an impressive cookie!! Read More...

Hi, all! In response to some recent requests to post collaboration cookies and the number beginning to appear on the site, I've created a new "Collaboration Cookies" clip set in which these cookies should be placed (along with any other clip sets that are relevant). As always, here on Cookie Connection , we don't allow people to post others' work due to copyright issues. But, in this clip set, we are making an exception for collaboration organizers ONLY, for certain photos ONLY. If you...Read More...
Christmas is the time for cookie collaborations, it seems! Here's one , organized by member Beth Bougie of Love Bug Cakes and Cookies that's especially striking - a collection of 40 or so cookie ornaments, all designed by different cookiers, and gracing  a wooden tree! (She also shows cookie detail shots of each ornament; just scroll on through her Facebook gallery!)Read More...
