Meet Our November Site Artist!

Julia M. Usher
Finally! At long last, Missouri has jumped fully into fall, all in the 11 few days that I was in Japan. My green trees suddenly have tinges of red and orange on them, and all of the seed pods in my garden are now definitively VERY brown. I chose this month's site artist (Timea Gazdagné Görbe, aka @PUDING FARM) not only because her work very much conveys the state of my fall yard , but also because poppies are the symbol of "remembrance". Later this month, we have one of our...Read More...

Hi, everyone! The JULIA Airbrush System sold more quickly than ever anticipated and, as some of you may know, is now stocked out. Thank you to everyone who supported the product through their purchases. I am so grateful to you! Several people have asked when it will be available again, and, instead of responding to each and every one of you separately, here's the official answer for all. I regret to say that I have no plans to release any more of this particular system . It’s a long story,...Read More...

Julia M. Usher
Hi, all! I have a fun little announcement for you, which includes some goodies designed to make us feel even more like one big, happy Cookie Connection family! Long story short, I recently partnered with teespring.com and YouTube to bring branded Cookie Connection and JULIA merchandise to YouTube. I’m beta-testing the feature now with some cute Cookie Connection tees and other goodies. Right now, I've got two Cookie Connection tees that look the same from the front . . . . . . but which have...Read More...

Hi, all! Craftsy has done it again with another cookie decorating course. This latest one , by @Anne Yorks of Flour Box Bakery, shows how to make fun and fabulous cookies for all four seasons of the year. I have not taken this course, but, judging from Anne's popularity on the Craftsy site, it's bound to be another good one. Also to note: If you sign up to take this class through any of the links in this post (like this one ) or in this site's sidebars (all of which are...Read More...
Hi, all! First, huge thanks to Cookie Connection members @mintlemonade (cookie crumbs) and @Ryoko ~Cookie Ave.! In an effort to lure more Japanese members to this site, they generously volunteered to translate the site's Terms of Use (利用規約) and Photo Posting Guidelines (画像・動画投稿について ―― 投稿する前に必ずお読みください) into Japanese! THANK YOU, LADIES! Now, everyone will find links to the Japanese translations at the top of each of those pages (links above), and also directly below: Terms of Use...Read More...

Hi, all, I've been receiving an unusually large number of questions about how members can edit or delete their own content. It's super important for you to know how to do this, as I typically do not edit posts for people, unless I happen to see a misclassified image or other typo. It can also take me several hours to days to respond to site inquiries like this, as I work several other jobs. That being said, your surest bet for getting a quick answer is to familiarize yourself with our site...Read More...
Hi, all, regrettably, I've recently had to delete some images from challenges and other areas of the site due to lack of compliance with Rule #8 of our posting guidelines, which states that artwork (including characters, from Disney, Hasbro, etc.) cannot be copied and posted here without permission from the creator : http://cookieconnection.juliau...READ-BEFORE-YOU-POST In response to those deletions, some members have asked me why so many licensed character cookies exist on the site,...Read More...

We all have different message-reading tastes, so Cookie Connection has been designed to allow for everyone's individual differences! The site's default email and onsite alert notifications are set to show you most of the site info that you could get notified about, just so you're aware of the site's full functionality. But I recognize that this amount of info may (or may not) be overkill for you. That said, I recommend that you edit your "Notifications" settings as soon as you join the site...Read More...

How Do You Do It All?! Really!

Hi, everyone! I have been stalking and learning for quite some time now. I haven't had to write a post thus far, since my questions are usually answered after some searching. I have read on this particular topic a few different times, but I have to ask for myself, in my own way. How do you balance it all? I have a full-time job as a legal assistant and three school-aged kids. I want so badly to make a batch of cookies every night but by the time all other areas of life are handled, at least...Read More...

Suggestions Needed for How to Decorate a Logo Cookie

I am a beginner! My boss is retiring, and I thought it would be nice to make cookies with our company logo. I worked with a company to create a custom cookie cutter but now I'm not sure how to go about decorating the cookie. Fondant? Royal Icing? The letters should be blue with a white background. Any suggestions for a very determined beginner who has about a week to figure this all out would be greatly appreciated!Read More...

Christmas Show

beautyandthesweets
So I've been up and running as a legal business from my certified home kitchen since April. Sales started super slow but have been picking up the past three months. But I need more sales to meet my financial needs and actually profit. I've tried participating in a few craft shows and the last was a total bust. I've already paid for a spot in a local show at the beginning of December and I'm wondering what products you guys think would sell best? I also do cakes and other baked goods as well.Read More...

Packaging Royal Icing

Hello, all! So I want to make some cute DIY gingerbread cookie decorating kits and am unsure as to how to go about packaging the royal icing so that it lasts several days without separating. Is this possible? My first thought would be to put in an uncut plastic icing bag and seal it up but I don’t think that will last more than 2-3 days. Is there a trick to this?Read More...

As some of you may know, I've been traveling and teaching in Japan over the last week. These teaching experiences are memorable in SO many ways, but the biggest joy BY FAR is making real, live, face-to-face connections with Cookie Connection members. It's so wonderful to finally put faces to names, and to talk in person with those people I've grown to admire and appreciate from afar. This week, I've had the good fortune of meeting at least four Cookie Connection members...Read More...

A Halloween Before and After

GoBakeItUp
So almost a year ago to the date, I decorated my very first sugar cookie. I became totally addicted to the process. Since then I've done cookies for almost every major holiday and some others just for fun. I just love everything about cookie decorating from designing, to baking, to decorating. I've made a TON of mistakes over the past year but practice makes perfect. My decorating skills still need improvement and, frankly, some of you Cookie Connection members out there just amaze me with...Read More...

Royal Icing Issues

Hi, all! I'm having problems and I hope someone can help!! I've been making the same sugar cookie recipe and royal icing recipe for YEARS! now all of a sudden, the icing is failing on me. It happened a few weeks ago for the first time. I doubled the recipe because I had 100 cookies to ice and by accident I used a whip. (I assumed it was the whip that was the problem) The icing almost doubled in size in the bowl and it didn't dry for 6 days!! It tasted almost like a marshmallow. And when it...Read More...

Those winners were Stacy Frank (aka @thefrostitute), Shelby Bower, and Heather Brookshire. (Congrats again, ladies!) Hi, I’m a new mom to a 7 week old. I haven’t accepted any orders since July to give myself a maternity leave. I’m no longer working my 9-5, and I would like to begin making treats full time. However, being a new mom is exhausting and I’m worried about reopening too soon and being unable to keep up with orders. Ideally I thought I’d have a routine by now and could reopen, but my daughter has no schedule, things are still a bit chaotic and I’m receiving inquiries for orders in November and...Read More...

Woo hoo! Our 2018 CookieCon Speakers Series continues (and concludes) with our last (but not least) CookieCon instructor live chat. On November 3 at 10 am central time , we're meeting up with none other than Katy Metoyer of Sugar Dayne , perhaps best known for her avant-garde, impressionistic seaside-themed cookies, like the beauties pictured below. Since 2017, she's also been the proud operator of a brick-and-mortar cookie shop, which I suspect we'll learn a lot more about during the chat!Read More...

Parchment Cone Leakage

lorrihill
Hi, all, I am also a convert to the parchment cone, but occasionally I need to use a metal tip. I am having problems with icing leakage between the bag and tip. I know Julia has mentioned this problem on one of her YouTube videos, but I did not take enough notice of the exact video . . . Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this or which video to go back and look at? Many thanks in advance.Read More...

Pico Projector

I hope I'm posting this question in the right spot! I am very new to using a projector for cookie decorating, so I have a ton of questions that I can't find answers to anywhere (probably because they're no brainers and I'm a novice)! Does anyone use a pico projector with their laptop - NOT with an iPhone/iPad? I can project images/text I have saved, but I can't change the size/zoom to make it fit the cookie. I see a lot of info out there about using the Camera Lucida app with an iPad . . .Read More...
