I am so excited to have had the opportunity to do a collaboration with the legend herself - the original host of these Practice Bakes Perfect challenges, The Cookie Architect!
For our collaboration, we chatted generally about possible ideas via Facebook messenger and through a secret Pinterest board. It took us at least a week or more to settle on a general theme for our collaboration "Circle of Life." We even solicited input from @Lucy (Honeycat Cookies) , and I think you can feel some of her influence through some of these muted tones and naturalistic elements! For our prime inspiration, we used photographs of moths pollinating flowers, which we curated on Pinterest.
With the general theme and color palette decided, but no overall sketch or finalized plan, I made my set of cookies in Chicago, and then mailed them all to Rebecca in New York. Rebecca then designed and created her cookies to complete the theme/set.
"You Complete Me" works as a theme on a couple of levels. First, since we did not sketch our finished design, I basically made a set of cookies of a certain color and theme, and then Rebecca played off what I had done, made her cookies, and then did a final edit of all of the available cookies to create the final project. Second, within our "Circle of Life" theme, moths and butterflies pollinate flowers, then the flowers bear seeds, which then become flowers again, in a "complete" life cycle.
I learned so much about how Rebecca goes about brainstorming her larger projects (she is a creative genius!). And she has promised to teach me how to properly hand-cut cookies and make butterflies (both are cookie kryptonite to me!). It has been such a formative experience working with an artist like Rebecca, who is talented on so many levels. I hope you enjoy our joint creation as much as we enjoyed bringing it to life!
Aww Shucks!!! Your cookies were top caliber girl! I loved playing with them. (The whole time I was photographing, my kids were hovering around wanting to eat them too, LOL!) I feel like I hardly did anything, except discover what amazing photos my new phone takes haha!

The photos are done, so tell 'em to munch away! I swear, your moths and butterflies are so beautiful, I want to cry. <3
Christine, amazingly beautiful cookies! The single sets and all together. Finally I can see that thistles finished! It is so funny because I had in mind your flowers and Rebecca's feather for days. I had imagined something special, but I couldn't have imagined that you two were up to something so special together. These cookies are really a gift. Also, I loved to read about the collaboration and the process of brainstorming, you guys are inspiring. I like the photos titles "Flowers best yet" and "Even better to seed". Congrats and thank you!

Thanks so much, Manu! It was a really interesting, energizing collaboration. It's like getting the opportunity to take a peak inside another's artist's creative brain!

I am sure of that! And we all had the same opportunity by looking at this splendid work of collaboration!
