I created these cookies over the last few days as a way of dealing with my sadness over the tragedy that took place in Monterey Park, California on Jan 21/23. 😞. I did a little research and learned that the most popular flowers to be displayed at Chinese funerals are chrysanthemums and lilies which is why I utilized both in this group. Also mourners often wear black, but also white, and often pink if the deceased is over 80 years old … which is why I used these three colors in the lanterns.
The victims were getting together for a Chinese New Year celebration. I created the rabbit with a tear as this is the year of the rabbit.
The chinese words on the bottom cookie have to do with sympathy, empathy, sharing a common feeling, etc.
My heart is sad for the victims and the families and loved ones of this senseless tragedy.
Oh Sandy, you did such a wonderful job on the sad theme!!You are familiar with the colors of mourning and often use Chinese characters.Did you learn these characters or the Chinese language?Even if the topic is sad, the cookies are so beautiful dear Sandy!! @Sandy_S❤️

Thank you, Gabi. ❤️ No, I unfortunately don’t know the language. I had to turn to Google to help me with the characters.
