Nice! So, what is the medium covering these cookies (fondant/royal icing??) and how is it textured? Curious, because hard to tell from the image. Thanks!

Thanks!  It started as a way to make the wedge on the wedge shoe look like textured rope.  I start with thick RI.  Allow it to dry somewhat, then lightly sprinkle with sanding sugar - if you add it too early it just sinks in and disappears.  Then allow to dry some more, until you can add lines on the cookie with a small offset spatula edge and they don't flow back together.  I like the embossed, sugary surface this produces, and I pretty much make things up as I go along....this worked pretty well for me.
