In this video, I show exactly how to make the heart inserts for the lids in my 3-D cookie heart boxes, which I posted last week. They may look involved, but they actually use the quick and easy rubber-stamping and dusting techniques.

Beautiful Julia as always, Could you please help and advise me.? I live in the UK, we have a lot of clear acrylic stamps here, some of which I brought cheaply in a sale. I have used a sugar flair gel but it doesn't seem to stick to the stamps, also I've tried food colouring pens, to know avail.? Would you just advise me to use Rubber stamps in future or is there a different ink and method I could try? Kind Regards SJ Cookies.

I talk a lot about stamp types in my stamping video in my DVD series. But basically the issue is the stamp type, not the coloring. Many of the clear stamps do not work insofar as the food coloring just beads up on them, as you experienced. But some do. You'll have better results with the brownish-red natural rubber stamps - they always work. When in doubt, test the stamp with food coloring on paper before trying it on a cookie (so you don't waste cookies). If it doesn't work with food coloring on paper, it won't work with food coloring on a cookie.

Some people also file or sand the clear stamps a bit before use, which allows them to grab food coloring a bit better. I've done this too, but I still don't get as crisp and clear results as I would if I just chose a stamp of the better material.
