Wedding thrones are a big part of Sri Lankan weddings whatever ethnic group they maybe. These thrones are where the wedding rings are exchanged and other cultural and traditional rituals are performed. These thrones are always decorated with flowers and other decors.

Last year my sister married and to celebrate her anniversary I made a replica of her wedding throne. These are two large cookies.  One cookie is the back of the throne and the other is the floor of the throne. It’s all edible. The shimmering curtain on the back is made of edible fabric (wafer paper and gelatin). The chair is made of royal icing piped separately and then put together. I had to use gum paste for the leg of the chair as royal icing was not strong enough. The flowers are molded fondant. Leaves are piped with royal icing. The gold lines on the back is gum paste glued to form the frame and then piped with edible gold. The candles are made of gum paste (I forgot to pipe the flame in white).

I love all of the cultural and technical (cookie decorating) context - thanks for sharing!
