Happy New Year to Julia @Julia M. Usher and all the cookie decorator’s here at cookie connection.

Once again I made a set of cookies that reflect my culture in Sri Lanka. The white circle cookie on the left is “milk rice” which is rice cooked in coconut milk. It is prepared for the beginning of anything new that takes place in our lives. Rice is harvested in Sri Lanka and harvesting signifies prosperity. Hence wishes for a prosperous 2024. Here the green plate is a cookie with a white fondant circle.

The center cookie is a must in every home. Boiling a pot of milk in an earthenware pot. The overflowing of milk represents abundance.  Here to form the pot I used Julia’s method of baking contoured cookies. Coloring it and filling with royal icing. The orange bricks are cookie dough cut like bricks and baked then painted. The firewood is thinly rolled cookies baked and painted.

The oil lamp is a must in every house. It is bringing in light to our lives. It also brings energy. For this I contoured cookie dough into a mini plate. I put a thin spaghetti for support in the center.

Having a bowl of Jasmine flowers reflect purity, enlightenment, hope and good fortune.

I have been sick and just managed to make these cookies. Happy 2024 to all.

I love the way you share your culture through your beautiful cookies! Thank you for explaining each one. They are gorgeous and you  went into every detail.
Wishing you a blessed New Year, dear Zeena!♥️

I hope you are feeling better now! The wonderful messages behind these cookies certainly perked me up (I've not been feeling altogether too well either)!
