I have been struggling with my royal icing getting lighter and blotchy as it dries. It gets lighter but never fully changes to the lighter color and looks almost like a two toned type dye. It’s not butter bleed because I don’t have any butter in my cookies so I don’t know what is could be? Never heard of anyone having this problem which is weird too!

Hi, Naomi p, Congrats on making your first post. I look forward to many more to come!
How are you drying your cookies? Are you sure your color is fully mixed?
@Naomi p posted:@Econlady I just set them out on a table to dry and give them a couple days before packaging. Also I am pretty sure it is completely mixed because it happens after a couple days of being iced!
I’ve had it happen when I closed cookies up before completely dry. If you use meringue powder try switching to genies. It never gives me trouble.
I had it happen when it was smoky and muggy. How is your weather?
@Econlady I am definitely going to order some of that. Thanks!
Typically, issues with blotchiness occur when the icing takes too long to set - which could be because your icing was too loose to start or it was too humid. It doesn't sound like the latter was the case, so be sure you're not over-loosening your flooding icing. You might also try quick-setting it near a fan or near/in a dehydrator.
