Looking to start cutting my own stencils for cookies but having a hard time figuring out which machine is the best. I purchased a silhouette Portrait and tried to cut stencils on 7 mil plastic. It would score and occasionally cut through. I tried changing all of the settings but never really worked.

Anyone have suggestions or what machine works best for this type of material.

Thank you

Sorry, I had the same trouble years ago, and now have my designs professionally laser-cut using 10 mil Mylar, which I prefer to thinner stencils. I can't be of much help, but Nancy Westfall of The Colorful Cookie has a business devoted to showing people how to cut their own stencils, so you might check with her.

I have an older Silhouette Cameo and use Grafix duralar 007 (I buy a pkg of 25 on amazon). I always double cut and for detailed stencils I will set it to cut 3-4 times. After the double cut, before removing the mat from the machine, I check the stencil. If I see it hasn't cut thru, I send it to cut again. Yes, it's a pain to have to cut so much, but I get nice clean lines and have hardly any weeding to do. I lift the stencil off the mat and most of the weeding stays on the mat. Good luck. It takes lots of trial and error. And Julia is right, check out The Colorful Cookie site or FB page. She has online docs w/lots of pros/cons on various cutting machines, mostly the Cameo and the Cricket last I looked.
