I just truly lucked into being one of the vendors for a Bridal shop grand opening on Saturday. They want 50 cookies with business cards for their gift bags and then I need "sample" cookies for a platter. I was thinking that I would make wedding cake cookies for the gift bags. I'm not sure what to use for the "sample" cookies, my gut instinct is to keep them on the small side and VERY simple..maybe hearts or flowers? Anyone have a better idea? ANY input is appreciated!! Thanks so much!

* Also I'm in Florida, so if other FL bakers could weigh in on this, but if I'm understanding the cottage laws correctly I will need to label all the cookies with the cottage law/nutritional information?

I agree that your samples should be small because its basically for a taste.

What about doing a simple daisy type flower with pearls in the middle.  Just to show the elegance.  You could have a platter of ivory and white or pale yellow.

Maybe stay to a shortbread or sugar cookie.  You could even throw in some butterflies ... If I think of anything else Ill write you.

Sorry, busy day. No time to be online.

Agree with keeping them simple especially if you are not getting paid to do this, which these shows rarely do. Though I would recommend bringing a photo album (or setting up your computer to display your cookies in slide-show fashion) so you have examples of your most extraordinary work there. Photos are a great marketing tool, and they can help eliminate some prep work.

As for your cottage food laws, I don't know them but I imagine they are well documented online. Even if not required to label, I would because of potential liability issues associated with food allergies, etc.

P.S. I moved this topic into the forum called "Other Business Help Needed - STAT!" as it's not so much a cookie decorating technique question as it is a business/marketing one. You can follow the thread there.

I owned a bridal rental for 20 years.

I would WOW them.

Small ,large it doesn't matter, but when they look at that cookie it is going to make them want your card for business. It's a great crowd, it's great way to advertise and you need to step it up and have people talking about "Who did that gorgeous bridal cookie!"

That's my opinion. Beautiful doesn't have to take hours, takes imagination.Good luck!

Thank you so much Tina! This is my first opportunity to get my business out there. I made large (4 inches or so) wedding cake cookies for the gift bags and small ( 1 inch or so) hearts and fleur-de-lis cookies for the tasting table. Today I'm decorating. I think I'll get lots of rosette practice.  Originally Posted by Tina At Sugar Wishes:

If you're decorating today - could you made a few of those hearts to look like the top of a bridal dress?  Just white with piped white ruffle, lace, pearls?  Stays with the theme and you don't have to do all of them that way but some so they stand out and they can see your artistic talents up close?  Just a thought ...

Good luck!
