I am fairly new to cookie decorating, and I would like to begin to use sprinkles to decorate my cookies. I recently purchased some sprinkle mixes containing the medium/large pearl sprinkles and metallic rods. Do you use both/either for cookie photography or do you send orders out the door with these items included? I taste-tested both and they're SO hard. I'm afraid that my customers will break a tooth. Also, the metallics are labeled as for decoration only, but why decorate cookies with them if they aren't safe to eat? Do some of you still use them? Have you had any complaints? Thank you for any information you can provide!

Hi, @Jen B, Welcome to the site once again! I hope you enjoy our happy and creative little community here!

To answer your question, do not use any dragees, beads, sprinkles, dusts, powders, etc. on cookies intended for eating if those items are labeled "non-toxic" or "for decoration only". They are not intended to be eaten, which is why they are labeled this way. Edible versions of these items are available, though sometimes you have to look harder for them.

I don’t use them! My friend lost an orthodontic bracket eating a dragee from my cookie. Ever since then, I stop using them. Also, those metallic rods have an uncooked noodle in them. They are meant to be removed before eating. It’s up to you, but with the way people are sue happy these days, it’s not worth it to me.
