Butterflies in Secret Garden by The Tailored Cookie

I had a lot of fun creating these cookies...I had a vision of a lot of butterflies resting on an old fallen over tree in a secret garden type space...the fallen over tree trunk is a cookie that I formed in the shape of a tree trunk and added texture with a paint brush and made texture with a toothpick. The butterflies we all the same shape but different sized made out of royal icing.

Very lovely! Though it looks like you have two shades of blue on the bases of these cookies. Am I seeing things?

No, only one shade. I think the shadows are plating tricks on you. I did everything with the same exact color mixed at the same exact time.

This is like taking a peek into a butterfly conservatory on a moonlit night. I love how you conceived of the whole scene, and your execution is fabulous. That tree trunk is perfect, as is your staging of this photo. The shadows cast by the sunlight hitting the butterfly wings created the most beautiful shadows and interesting tonal variations. Lovely work!
