I was inspired by Italy, especially Tuscany with its strong Etruscan influence.
I love the wonderful earth colors, its ancient pottery and of course their marvellous pasta.
I created this set of 6 cookies trying to transmit all of this, I used very little royal icing. Basically my cookies are molded and textured then painted with food colouring.
The bowl of pasta is made in one piece, I baked it over a bowl and it has a crackled effect because I went for an antic or weathered look. I am sorry that the photo didn´t caputrue it very well.
WOW! This is a magnificent entry! You really captured the essence of Italy and it artisan pottery. I love that you worked with mostly naked cookies to achieve your weathered/antiqued look. The final effect is very authentic, and your colors are so perfectly muted and crackled. Just fabulous!
On an unrelated note, I want to apologize for being so late in commenting on this entry. I was on an extended trip through Asia the second half of June, and then proceeded to suffer a crushed thumb injury the day after I returned home, so I have either been without internet or the ability to type the past 3 weeks! Thankfully, the thumb is on the mend, and I am back at the keyboard, if not the kitchen yet!
