I really want to try this! SugarVeil isn't readily locally and not much chance of ordering any before Christmas either. Does anyone know if Claire Bowman cake lace might pipe the same?

Don't know, as I've never worked with it. But can you do quick test and let us know?

Tried filling in some lace I had in storage. It did dry shiny but it shrunk a lot. It was really poofy last night, but over night it deflated as it dried. Perhaps I need to fill each cavity more?

Does SugarVeil dry hard? This is still quite soft. That is the selling point of Claire Bowman's Cake Lace. It stays flexible for months and months. The lace it makes is a dream to work with. Even feels like real lace!

Perhaps I might get different results with the pearlized pre-mix. They're designed to be stiffer. I just don't have any on hand and I'm not sure I can afford to splurge

Thanks for the test! Interesting! Not sure about piping more in the holes; maybe the consistency needs to be thicker instead? SugarVeil icing definitely doesn't deflate at the ratios used in my video, but drying time/hardness depends a lot on the ambient humidity. As it's mostly sugar, it will suck up moisture from the air if it's humid and remain tacky but firm, whereas if it's dry, it will set without any tackiness. But it can revert to tacky if ambient conditions change and the product had not been stored in an airtight container.

I did bring it into the air conditioning to dry because it is pretty humid here right now. I added a little bit of extra water to the standard mix. I'll try leaving that out and bake in the oven like recommended. I didn't have time to do that last night. Some deflated more than others so I'll try and fill them to the same height. But I think it'll still give a pretty good result. I'll make some ornaments this weekend and post pictures.

When I pipe with the icing, I don't set it in the oven the way you'd set the lace. I just let it dry at room temp, and that usually works fine. Though with your mix being wetter and it being humid there, the oven is probably a good idea. I look forward to seeing what you do!
