I loved working on this 3D heart project! It certainly had its challenges but that's a big part of the fun . Right?! I molded my construction sugar cookie dough onto a heart form and then once baked and cooled, I dipped the sides into a medium-light consistency icing.
The biggest challenge was the embossed, molded cookie that the heart sits in. And then standing up the heart inside that smaller, more fragile cookie. I had to roll the dough thin, emboss it with a silicone mat and then cut the round cookie with a flower cutter to achieve the curved shape that I wanted (a la Julia @Julia M. Usher...thank you, Julia!). Julia has taught me SO many tricks to creating unique molded and embossed cookie shapes!
I painted the needlepoint lace with silver before gluing it on the heart cookie. I also used an extruder to make a thin "rope" of fondant to put around the top of the scallops on the molded, embossed cookie. I then painted it all gold. I liked the effect and decided that painting the edges of the white base and pink support cookie with gold as well to create a more finished look.
