Napier is a city in New Zealand that suffered a terrible earthquake in 1931. The whole city was ruined by the quake and the fires that followed. The city's rebuild happened during this Art Deco era and so most of the architecture is of this unique style. It's a beautiful city to walk around and almost everything was screaming "Cookify me!" as I passed. I put off making Napier-inspired cookies mostly because I knew I couldn't make them without including some lettering. Practice Bakes Perfect Challenge #9 gave me the motivation I needed.
I don't own a KK (yet) so to do the words, I lightly painted the letters by eye and then piped over them.
I've attached two photos below that I took while in the city. One is of a typical street sign and the other is of the Halsbury Chambers building (architect Louis Hay, 1932).
Wonderful back story and fabulous set! I LOVE art deco, and you really captured the feel of that era perfectly. I am so glad you took the risk and brought these to life!

Thank you so much everyone. I always like reading the stories behind other people's cookies so I wanted to share mine too.
Oh Laura, fantastic - My mother came from Napier, so immediately I saw you have captured it. Well done!! And yes - I the whole place screams 'cookiefy me!'
