Wow. We all know how difficult a task this was to create, and, it is beautiful. What a lovely design and a perfect interpretation. This one hit the mark. Excellent.
I cut out the basic shape then used a small circle cutter to create the voids. I bent and pinched/twisted it then formed it over one of my wire armatures that gives so it would hold it's shape in the oven.

Then, did you dip it in royal icing or hand-pipe around all of the openings?
I hand piped glaze on the top then after 15-20 minutes I started carefully piping the inside openings and spreading it around with a scribe tool. I kept it on the armature while glazing and painting.
