I love 'em too. You got quite the luster on them! It almost looks like highlighter dust. What brand and type of dust did you use?

Hi Julia!  Yes, I do struggle with my photography.  I use Luster Dust by Linton.  People always say my photos don't do the cookies justice, and without a flash the details/sparkle might not show, and with flash sometimes way tooo much.  I just read a chat here about photography, so will continue to work on improving.

The photo looks fine to me; I was just curious if you were using standard luster dust or highlighter dust, which is much more shiny. Sounds like luster dust, and your flash accentuated it nicely!

Thanks!  I heard they were gobbled up right away.Originally Posted by LadyGodiva2u:

Really love these, must be funny hearing comments like : " oh I just ate a few chairs " or " Well I'm watching my weight so I only ate one regency chair " :-)

Well, I don't know the brand name because I bought them at my local supplier and they were just labeled, "Silver Dust" and "Gold Dust", with only her own shop label on them.  She had told be about them in advance and I don't know if these are the "highlighters" of which Julia spoke.  Anyway, I find them to be sooooo super shiny that unless I am gilding lettering, I always mix them with Pearl Luster dust,  along with lemon extract, to produce a softer shine.  I'll be posting my Ice Skate cookie tomorrow, which has the Silver on the blade.

Here's the difference; some important ones of which to be aware: Highlighter dust is much shinier and more opaque than the typical gold luster dust. (One coat of highlighter dust is all you'd likely ever need, and no paintbrush marks either.) While many luster dusts are not FDA-approved, they are non-toxic and, thus, rightly or wrongly, quite often used on food that gets consumed. (There are also some FDA-approved luster dusts coming into the market.) By contrast, highlighter dust is not FDA-approved AND is also generally NOT labelled non-toxic, so it's really for decorative purposes only - not consumption.

Thank you for that explanation.  I just discovered some FDA approved lusters at Country Kitchen Sweet Art, Inc. and bought a few, and found that they work just as nicely as the others.  I will be gradually switching over.Originally Posted by Julia M. Usher:

Thanks Julia and Barbara. I'll investigate here in UK. The lustre dusts I use are approved for consumption in Uk, whereas disco dusts are non toxic (so I use them liberally on family produce only, sadly, as I love them)

I'll have to see if I can find any highlighter dusts and what their ingredients are. I can't use Americolour here as a few of the E numbers are not approved here. Odd really, that we can all 'safely' eat different things!

I agree Lucy!  Oh, don't get me started on all the foods we're allowed to eat that are banned in the EU.  I'm surprised any Europeans want to eat here!  I still work as a personal chef, so I read lots of food articles and am not happy with some of the junk that is "approved" over here...but that's another conversation, isn't it.
