This is Julia Usher’s 3D footed Needlepoint cookie box. The reason I chose this project of Julia is because, one, I have never done a needlepoint cookie before. I have also struggled with beadwork and wanted to see how I will do better.  The cookie dough is also Julia’s gingerbread recipe. This project gave me the chance to pipe roses.

I still struggle with my icing consistency. Next time I will choose a finer piping tip to pipe the Needle point. Thank you to Julia for all the wonderful courses. I have learned a lot from you and from all others here at Cookie Connection.

Hi, Zeena! I am flattered you chose this box. It's also an ambitious project, so kudos to you for seeing it through from start to finish. It looks really, really good. Icing consistency can be tricky on this one though, as you pointed out. Unlike some other decorators, I use two consistencies on needlepoint - a thicker one for the lines (but not so thick that it breaks if you pipe too quickly) and my looser beadwork consistency for the dots (as I prefer not to see peaks on them). When working with that beadwork consistency, my parchment cone is barely open, so I can precisely control the loose icing. I'd say it's open to the equivalent of a #00 or less. I see some peaks on your dots, so I'm thinking you may have used the same consistency for both lines and dots, and that might be part of the "struggle" you mentioned?? Let me know if there's anything more specific I can help with - happy to do so if I can. Job well done in any event!!

Such gorgeous work dear Zeena @Zeena!! Julia's right...this is truly an ambitious project which you crafted with great proficiency and attention to detail. Hard to do for sure!! I've always loved this box for the cutouts, needlepoint and the fact that it's 3D (I love all 3D cookie art. LOL).

Congrats on accomplishing this project with such elegance my dear cookie friend ❤️❤️❤️ Hugs...

Thank you so much Julia @Julia M. Usher. This project that I made is testament to what a fantastic teacher you are. I learned so much and there is so much I have to learn.  I have to keep in mind to use a parchment cone and not a piping tip when I do this type intricate work. Thank you for your feedback.

You are very welcome, and thanks for your sweet words!

You did an excellent job with this project. Your roses and leaves are beautifully piped and with perfect consistency. Getting the right consistency for the dots just takes a little experimenting and practice (not too thin, not too thick) to master. Your piped lines look very well spaced and straight. How did you find that part of the project to be?

Thank you Christine @Sweet Prodigy. I think if you have practice in piping it helps to pipe straighter lines. Focusing on where you start and where you plan to end the lines help too. I still need to fine tune my skills. Icing onsistency  seems to be my biggest battle. Thanks to you and Julia these challenges push me to practice.
