There were actually 55 of the cookies, they were used as table decoration in the restaurant.
The cake, the cookies, and the flowers took two complete weekends alltogether, but it was worth it. My Granny was so surprised, she almost started to cry. Which means that our and the restaurants secrecy was succesfull
I had to take the picture in the dead of the night, so it is a little grainy, sorry.
Beautiful work! And I love the colors, they are so perfect. You also prepared the cake and the flowers! I wish you attached more closed up in the comment!

Thanks, Manu! I did some closeups, but the pictures are even worse than this. I only finished Friday night, and we had to leave on Saturday before daylight. My camera just isn't good enough to work with artificial light only
Laegwen, I am blown away by your artistic talent! Not only cookies but a stunningly beautiful cake...such incredible work!! What could be better than a cake with a cookie on top?! .
What are the roses in the spray on the cake made of? They are so life-like and the most gorgeous color. I absolutely love your work

Thanks, Carol, that's awefully flattering. And to answer your question, a cake with two cookies on top *lol*
The flowers are made of gumpaste. The bouquet is also wired, the single flowers not. It is a lotnof fun to make them, but I only start mastering life-like flowers. Still way to go...

I've never tried working with gumpaste so am curious as to whether or not it's easier to work with than fondant. I truly am amazed by the flowers on the cake

That depends on what you plan to make. Those flowers would be impossible to do with fondant, on the other hand I doubt that you could cover a cake with gumpaste.
Fondant is a lot softer, it never hardens completely, you can make large figures, etc. Gumpaste dries a lot faster, you can roll it out so thin that you can read a newspaper through it, but you need to work quickly and large, massive object can get tears when dried.
To sum it up, fondant is good for large areas or objects and leaves you a lot of time to work it, but you can never make truly delicate things with it. Gumpaste is good for delicate things such as flowers and for everything were you need a truly thin sheet.
And I took a special four day flower making class last year, that helped a lot in mastering some techniques

Thank you Laegwen for all of the tips!! So very helpful. I would love to take flower making classes as I am very drawn to flowers in my design work. Used to make and decorate cakes years ago and really enjoyed it. This was long before fondant came onto the scene . So much has changed since then...you provide such helpful information. Thank you!!

This picture is perfect, I was just wondering if you had some closeups from different perspective to appreciate better your wonderful work... done with love.
Just BEAUTIFUL! Happy birthday to Grandma, and I'm sure she was delighted with her cake.
Thanks! She was delighted for sure, but on the other hand, I have been doing cakes and cookies for a while now, she starts getting used to it *lol*
Oh no my dear, I can tell you she's always thrilled. One never gets used to it.
You created a masterpiece for her, your labor and love speak loudly. This came straight from your heart.
Was she able to save the large bouquet? They look like porcelain roses.
Remarkably beautiful Laegwen.
Pip
Thanks for your sweet comment. You are right, of course, she was thrilled. Though most of her guests, who had never seen something like this before, were speechless
Yes, she can save the bouquet, it is completely wired and is meant as a keepsake. She has it in her living room shelf now.
