These are really beautiful. I adore these rich, warm tones, and would love to know how you were able to create that deep, deep red color! I see that you have listed "sponge painting" in your tags - which elements did you sponge paint? Is it just the backgrounds, or did you use sponges elsewhere? In any event, I think the result here is fantastic, and these cookies do look just like wallpaper samples! Well done!

Thank you! I used brown mixed with red to get the deeper color and then sponged over the top in a few areas with a red mixed with brown and a tinge of black to give it a little depth and shadowing. I also sponged a pearl airbrush color over a stencil pattern to get the transparent look of white pattern over the orange. The darker color of burnt orange around the edge of the yellow center square was applied with a cosmetic sponge since it has a straight edge to work with. The look of streaks was done by sponging on a darker top color and then brushing through with a dry paint brush. This is the first time I have painted a cookie iced with royal icing, but I found that a lot of the techniques I use in my watercolor painting could be used here as well.
