Wafer Paper Garden

For this set each of my cookies have wafer paper elements. Some with stamen, some leaves. The grass and stem were also made from wafer paper. The stems were wet bit by bit and then rolled into a tube and sealed with water. With each piece, I painted to shape and then when happy with the shape I made a glue with wet fondant and attached to RI painted cookie. This set was a lot of fun. I love to work with rice paper and had a blast creating this garden scene. Thanks for the great challange, Christine!

Hi Kim! What a creative use of wafer paper! It adds such a lovely 3-D quality to give a more lifelike appearance to these cookies, though I have to say that your painting is extremely delicate and it's free form adds to the perfection of this cookie setting. Thank you so much for sharing!

Kim!  I am so sorry I missed this when you first posted!  It is GORGEOUS!  I love the amazing 3D textures, and your colors are so rich.  Your fondant "glue" sounds intriguing.  Was it actually liquid fondant?

Aw, I'm so glad you like it, Crhistine!  I had heard (someplace don't remember where) if you add water to fondant, let it sit for a few minutes, and then sort of mash it up, it would become a glue. It's true. It's got mass, so you have to put it where you don't mind it being seen, or make it part of your composition, or totally put it behind things. It will dry faster than RI. which is a plus you really want on your side with rice paper. You get an explosion of shape (or deflation to mush) when rice paper stays wet too long. So it should also be fondant filled with tylos powder that you use and it will quickly dry and be stiff. You can see it (painted as dirt) at the base of the grass.
