Here's an easy recipe for making your own flavored sugars. Use it to make streusel topping for muffins, add it to your coffee or tea, buttered toast, cereal...or sprinkle on cookies! You can also rim a glass for a special touch to your favorite adult beverage.

1. Use the freeze dried fruit of your choice (blueberries, strawberries, peaches, etc.)

2. Place 1/2 cup of the fruit in a coffee or spice grnder and process until very finely ground.

3. Pour into a bowl and add 1/4 cup sugar.

For Apple Pie Sugar:

1/2 cup freeze dried apples or 1 oz. apple chips

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Very interesting!  That with dried friut!.   I made flavored sugar but with extracts.  When an extract bottle is empty but damp with the extract I filled it with sugar, if I want a stronger flavor I add a few drops of extract.    I use it a lot with the vanilla extracts for some cookie récipes that need vanilla sugar.   You can use a jar of sugar with vanilla beans too.

I've seen this method for getting a flavored sugar, and I'm guessing it's a much less expensive way to go, which is a good thing! Using the dried fruits would be quicker if you were in a hurry, and if you wanted some color with the sugar.
