I'm not an "expert" at this but I've never found one with a shine to it after it's dried.  I've read about different methods to get the shine but based on the photos I didn't think it was worth the effort.  Having said that, I've used 2 parts corn syrup to 1 part alcohol (I used triple sec) and painted that over the finished, decorated cookie and the results were ok.  I was going for a look of glass (on a mason jar cutter) and it kinda worked out ok.  https://www.pinterest.com/pin/488359153322064222/

Please also check out the other royal icing recipe topics already posted to this site, in this very forum!  You may find that one or more address(es) your needs: http://cookieconnection.juliau.../forum/icing-recipes

Saw your picture in Pinterest. This looks so good. It really gave the ice cube a 3D look. Thanks for posting.
