As some of you have already noticed, my site host issued a new "site release" today which includes a few upgrades that should interest you:

1. Ability to upload either a stock or custom avatar. If you don't have an image of your own that you'd like to upload as a custom avatar, you can now choose from a couple of stock avatars so you don't have to live with the nondescript black male silhouette that is the default. I've only uploaded two stock avatars so far (shown below), but more will be coming soon. To change from the default avatar to a stock or custom avatar, simply click on your avatar in the upper right of the site, then click on "Edit Profile," and then edit the avatar area (the prompts are pretty self-explanatory, but email me if not).

2. Ability to like individual comments. Sometimes posting an actual comment or reply is overkill and all you want to do is give a quick thumbs up. You can now do so by simply liking an existing comment in the lower left of the comment (see example below). These likes will appear in the site and profile activity streams. Of course, you can still always like a clip or an entire blog/forum post in the upper right of that content. (And I recommend doing so, as it is these overall likes that drive clip rankings in the site's Hot Spot and Saturday Spotlights.)

3. Ability to see those who liked your clip/content. Now when someone likes your clip (or other content), you can easily see who your fans are! Their avatars appear directly under the likes in the upper right of each clip/content page, as shown in the example below.

Sample Likes

I hope you like these new features as much as I do. Thanks go to my site host, Hoop.la, for continually responding to their customers' suggestions and adding features at no cost.

Yeah, so many people are, which is why I think Hoop.la decided to make that addition before some others. It's a nice one.

Quick question for Julia - I noticed that I "liked" some comments people made on my clips and when I left the site and then came back (new browser open), the comments don't show "liked".  I liked them again...logged off and back on...no comments show "liked".  Do they just show up in the person who commented's alerts or activity?  Or, is there something not working correctly?  It's pretty low on the totem pole, and not worth thinking about today nor tomorrow...but maybe let me know at some point down the line?  I'm referring just to the "like" on comments on clips.  I "like" to use them as a "thank you" for folks taking the time to comment (it always makes me giddy with happiness to get a comment)!

Yes, this is a bug that I reported last week - the comment like tally is also reflecting the total likes for the clip rather than the likes of that comment. My site guys are working to correct both bugs right now. They're usually pretty darn quick, but may take longer to fix with the intervening holidays. I will keep you posted here.

Though I just checked the functioning on a couple of comments this morning, and both things are now working for me. The comment likes stay in place and the like counter is accurate. Debbi - please let me know if the issue is fixed on your end. Thanks.

Julia - the comment on clips "like" is not holding.  I just went back to all of my Christmas clips with comments, and I clicked "like" on each comment.  Then, I closed the browser and re-opened another browser.  Went to look at my Christmas clips with comments and none show the comment as "liked" and the counter shows zero likes (only talking about comments).  What do you see by the comment from Classic Cookies by Parr when you look at this clip?  I see (0 Likes) and a white heart.

Yes, I understand the problem; it's the same one (plus another) that I reported to them last week. I see nothing in that link now. But the comments were holding for me yesterday, just not now.  BTW, my site guys have not told me that this problem is fixed yet, so I imagine they are still working on it. They always tell me when something is fixed. They're on vacation for a few days, but I'll ask them for an update when they get back.

Update: My site folks said the comment-liking problems would probably be fixed sometime next week (after 12/29). Thanks for your patience,

Update: My site guys say the comment liking feature (and associated counter on liked comments) is now working properly. Please let me know if you are experiencing any more issues with it! Thanks again for your patience!

This message popped up when I tried to click on two separate comments someone else made on the Cookie Tin cookies. (it was not my cookie) - one of the comments was yours, Julia, and then someone else's.  It allowed me to click like on one of the other persons comments.

"Your request could not be completed at this time due to an unknown system error.  Reference ID: 367918495073264133[661057557][-1149048580]19.b392.36d9bec-hp01.ps004-2

    Please click here to continue."

Then, when I clicked on a comment on one of my cookies, it gave this pop-up "Su pedido no pudo ser completado en este momento debido a un error de sistema desconocido. ID de Referencia: 367918495073298784[661057557][-1149048580]19.b392.36d9bec-hp01.ps004-2

Por favor Haga clichere para continuar."

Hope copying the response helps the tech people!

Thanks for the input, Debbi. Can you tell me what browser and operating system you are using? I am not getting those errors on this end, but I think they will also need that info to diagnose. Will forward all of above and browser/OS info to them pronto.

Debbi - No need for browser and OS info from you. Here's what my site guys said about your issue above. I'll let you know when this one is fixed. Thanks for reporting!

OK, Debbi and anyone else following, They say this latest issue is fixed and all comment liking features should now be working. They are for me, but please test and let me know if you are getting any continued errors. Much appreciated!

Thanks too, Debbi, for your support in trouble shooting. It's sometimes hard to know what's working for others, because it can be working on this end (certain browsers/OSs) and not elsewhere.
