Hi Sweet Bakers,
I just received my first RAPUNZEL order and I am stressed about which purple food coloring to use for her dress... I do have wilton's (dora) violet, americolor electric purple, and another purple... any suggestions?
THANK YOU!

Hi, I strictly use Chefmaster colors so I can't comment on any of those that you have. But if you know the color you're trying to match, I'd suggest printing it out; then mixing up a small amount of icing with each of these colors. Paint a bit of each color onto something white (I find that color shows up better against white; I use cake cardboards for testing colors) and then let each color dry for about 30 minutes. The color will intensify as it dries. Once the colors are dry, compare them to your swatch. Use the closest one, or adjust it with the addition of other colors (i.e., if you need it more periwinkle, add blue; lighter, add white or uncolored icing; etc.) I usually use this process to mix colors when I'm trying to match a known one, and it doesn't take long. Just long enough for the icing to dry, which can also be accelerated in a dehydrator.
Hope this helps! Good luck.
I'm not very color savvy, but I happened to be mixing some colors for my granddaughter to "play with decorating"...with royal icing for her first time! She wanted purple. We selected both of the non-electric purples from AmeriColor...I mixed a sample of each...she said they looked too blue. I combined them...still too blue in her 7-year-old opinion. So I added a single drop of red to the mix and it worked up to the color she wanted.
Maybe try that if you can't get the color the way you want it. I often do what Julia recommends...and if I mix anything up that I don't like, rather than tossing it, I just save it for making black!
thanks ladies I will try and let u knw!
I'm brand spanking new to cookies as well, but Lila Lola is fantastic when it comes to color and Georganne will help anyone who asks for it. Sugarbelle also has a colour chart here: http://www.sweetsugarbelle.com...t-and-printing-help/
Hope that helps!
