Thanks Lucy!  It's a miracle really that this cookie turned out- it really did give me a lot of trouble.  Sometimes persistence pays off!

This one took a while- an hour to bake,  a million hours for mixing icing of course (not really, but doesn't it always feel like that?), an hour or so for the icing transfers, and then 3 hours to flood, 6 to paint( and scrape out one set of "fabric" and reflood), and another 4-5 for the rest of it like the leaves and the details.  I kind of didn't plan well enough, started painting fabric details that were "too detailed" and messed things up and the whole nine yards.  This is one were I really had to dig myself out of a hole creatively!

This should become a family heirloom!  

Spectacular!  What was this for?  An order?  A gift? For a competition?  Or just an experiment?  I don't have a lot of time to experiment to a conclusion (finished cookie) as I'm selling and always getting ready for the next holiday (hello Mother's Day)....  I just learn and dabble in bit's and pieces, so am curious about this one.  Oh yeah, and I don't have time to make real quilts anymore!

I am a hobby baker/cookie artist.  This was for a cookie collaboration to honor Anita of Sweet Hope Cookies because she is  such a wonderful person and she bakes to support ALS research after her brother's passing on April 19th a few years back.  The task was to make cookies to represent a hero in our own lives- in this case my mom.  So it ended up being a gift too to her.  I do have the time constraints of my real job as an architect, so I do a lot of late night baking.  This one was definitely an experiment, but I'm prone to getting in over my head!

Thanks Rebecca - just had to ask, and what a wonderful cause!  I often ask myself, "how does she make any money - what must she charge for this?" because I struggle with charging enough for my time, and often spend more time than is profitable on a cookie because I am much more interested in making it fabulous than watching my bottom line.  It's a funny thing - getting paid for one's art -  especially when one's doing it out of necessity - to keep the mortgage paid.  Still - I'm so lucky I love what I do! 

You did a fabulous job - so many fine techniques - inspiring!

I'll be honest, I am going to be a terrible example from the financial end. I'm an architect, and my hourly rate could never be applied to my cookie work, so I just refuse to sell and to put a value on them in that way.  I'm doing this for the love and, really, to inspire myself and others.  So I hope it lifts your spirits, but if you do something like this for a client, please charge them an arm and a leg!!!
