The house is made of gingerbread, and yes, it is quite thin, approx. 2-3 mm. :-)

Why do you roll it so thin ? Does it make a bit fragile ? especially since there is not royal icing to make it more sturdy ! I prefer to make my cookie cottage with butter cookie dough because the molasse makes the cookie too soft.
 

Quite on the contrary - the finished pieces get very sturdy when baked and cooled. I roll them thin to avoid that the pieces float and change shape while in the oven. Maybe the cookies get softer if they are thicker? Give it a try!

Splendid!  I've never been shown/instructed to roll thin.  I never liked the fullness of the pieces.  I would always shave the pieces.  With cookies (not for houses) I smooth over and press down with a fondant smoother.  How did you get the watery effect for under the swan?  Bravooooooo!
