My first 3D construction project was an Easter house and I wanted to make another one. The goal was to see if I could correct at least some of the things I didn't like about that first house. Overall I made a lot of improvements but I should have thought it out even further to prevent mistakes. I didn't have any graham crackers to smash and color for the grass. I improvized by using coconut since we're minimizing time away from home as much as possible. I improvised by using colored coconut for the "grass". I don't think coconut looks as realistic and makes the base look too heavy...too decorated if you will. In retrospect I should have used my food processor to grind the coconut into a fine powder of sorts and then color it.
There have been quite a few cookie houses I've seen that have ponds and I wanted one. The base really should have been larger in order to create a pond in better proportion to the house.
I believe it was one of Julia's @Julia M. Usher's tutorials where she used chocolate "rocks" on one of her projects. (Although I looked quite a bit to find the exact tutorial in order to provide the link for you I couldn't find it... .) Julia, might you recall? Since I had some leftover chocolate rocks from another project I used those as a border for the pond. Colored piping gel was used to create the look of water. I'm not happy with how the back of the house came together. Too busy, I think.

I think it looks great, Carol. In the past, I've used chocolate candy rocks, made rocks out of fondant, and made rocks out of royal icing "putty", so I'm not quite sure which rocks you're looking for. My castle "accessories" video described how I made one of the two latter types of rocks; you can find it on my YouTube channel under the 3-D cookie playlist, I believe. I hope that helps you find it. Thanks for the mention.
This is absolutely adorable! I love the trim at the top- the white with purple accents. Can you give more details?
Thank you so much Lisa @LisaF !! The trim at the top is edible lace with royal icing transfer dots (a definite learned technique from our own dear Julia ). Super easy to make ❤️

Thanks so much Julia. I did go back and look at those 2 videos and saw what you're referring to about creating rocks out of RI putty and fondant.
The more I've thought about the finished house, the more I want to take off the coconut, process it to a finer sugar and see if that helps to "lighten" the heavy feeling that I don't like. With extra time right now, why not play around with the idea a little ? . The house looked better in my sketches and I see now that I should have gone with my gut. Practice, practice, practice...always so much to learn. I deeply appreciate your kind support and encouragement @Julia M. Usher❤️
Oh, how absolutely adorable this is, dear Carol 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩! All those wonderful details! That little pond is such a wonderful touch, and your cobblestone path 💖💖💖💖💖!!!

I really like the grass - lots of texture. My two cents: I think if you move the pond further from the house (on a bigger base) and create some empty, negative space on the base, you might perceive less heaviness. But, we truly are splitting hairs. It is an awesome piece.
