The Story: I was struggling coming up with a concept for a baby shower set (complete artistic freedom can be daunting sometimes.) Then I saw this set, http://cookieconnection.juliau....com/clip/baby-emma, by The Painted Box. Her milk bottle cookie inspired the whole concept.
The Technique: I flooded the cookies with white, adding blobs of color roughly where I wanted them to go (a rare opportunity to embrace imprecision). The cookies looked pretty strange at this point, but I persevered and drew over the blobs of color with a fine-point rainbow dust food marker.
Lessons Learned: Several hours later, the ink was still wet. I was in a hurry so I carefully dabbed the ink with a dry brush dipped in powdered sugar (up and down dabs, not side to side strokes). This made the black ink slightly more subdued, but I was able to bag the cookies smudge-free.
I love the fine details of you drawings. I'm not sure how these originally looked with the black lines, but I do like how the lines look now. That is a good lesson learned but also a good technique for anyone who wants a more subtle look to their lines.
