For this set of cookies I have tried the following method: After I have baked the cookies, I used the next size down cookie cutter to trace the circle with my scribe tool. Then I traced the circle with royal icing and I let it for a few minutes to crust. After the icing has crusted, I flooded the circle, starting from the outside and moving to the center, and I let it dry completely. I used one consistency royal icing. The mushrooms are royal icing transfers and handpainted.
I would also like to say that this challenge is awsome. Thank you so much for that. I really had great time from planning, sketching to bringing this set to life.
I LOVE this set of cookies! Who knew there were so many mushrooms and who knew mushrooms could be so beautiful?! And best of all, these mushrooms are all safe to eat! I like the technique of using a circle cookie cutter to make an outline. I would suggest that if you wanted to flood closer to the edge of your cookie and not leave a border, you use the same cutter that you used to cut out the cookie. All cookies spread at least a little, and the same cutter should be ever so slightly smaller than the circumference of the baked cookie. Thank you for the great description of your process. This is a fabulous entry!

Thank you so much Bakerloo Station for your comment. I must admit that I hadn't thought of using the same size cutter. I will definitely try it next time!!!! Thank you so much!!!!
