RUSTY CHAIN 100 % royal icing Movable, 4-D royal icing art
Can you see in the cover image how metallic it shines here and there? I likes it so much! And can you see in the last pictures how weathered and worn it is? I really like such old and rustic objects.
Then let's take a look at the tutorial. The pictures speak for themselves but I share a brief description in addition.
------------------- TECHNIQUE
* 100% transfer technique * double transfer technique * dry brush painting
* Using medium gray stiff-consistency (but frothy and light) royal icing.
* For a metallic luster effect, form chain links on the plastic sheets.
* Form oval “O” parts for the chain links, and a little bit larger oval “C” parts for the interconnection links. (Image 1)
* If you want both sides to be shiny, use my double-sided transfer technique, id est put a plastic front on top of the shaped chain links and press it lightly. (Image 2)
* Let the icing dry completely.
* I made almost 1,000 chain links for my project. (Image 3) I wrote about this work in my formerly post.
------------------- LINKING
* Hook an “O” shape on each side to the “C” chain link. (Image 4)
* Close the middle "C" link.
* For this use „playdough royal icing” (I named it that way), which is very very stiff-consistency material and it dries quickly. Use a toothpick to fill the gap. (Images 5-6)
* The links are assembled into several such triple units. (Images 5-6)
* To achieve the desired length, triple units are linked together with other "C" forms. (Image 7)
* Let the icing dry.
------------------- RUSTY EFFECT
* Dust food coloring is applied using a dry brush.
* Choose an orange-red (terracotta) and a medium brown (milk chocolate) shade. (Image 8 )
* It is not necessary to color the entire surface of the chain links, it is enough only in spots. (Image 9)
* Rub it lightly with a brush or a piece of paper towel. (Image 10)
------------------- And you are ready with the rustic, weathered, rusty chain! (Images 11-15)
