Shevitsa - Bulgarian Cross-Stitch

I used needlepoint and sugar lace. 

This is a traditional Bulgarian cross-stitch. Somepeople believe the number of stitches in each shevitsa holds magical influence to the people wearing it. You can see some real shevitsa  around my cookies made by my mom.

Lessons I've learned: Next time I'm gonna flood the cookies before I start with the needle point, because all the bumps and uneven places on the cookies messed up my straight lines.   And be quicker next time.....!

This one needs a lot of work to do, Zara.

I'm so sorry, but you posted this image at 5:38 pm and the challenge closed at 5 pm, after I closed the clip set for the challenge. It's an awesome and splendid effort, but, unfortunately, it missed the deadline.

FYI: I re-opened the clip set and added your photo into the challenge set, but only so that people will be able to easily see it was intended for the challenge. But, because it was late, we can't include it in the random drawing or formal Spotlight, out of fairness to others. I hope you'll understand.

I thought I'll be on time, because it was around the same time I posted some of my other challenge entries and was surprised to find out it was already closed. I never managed to figure out those time zones I guess the difference is because of the sumer/winter time. Anyway, it was so fun to do and I've learned so much during that challenge, that's the point after all. Thanks again for everything, Julia @Julia M. Usher ! Looking forward to the next challenge!

Your needlepoint is great, and I can't see the messed up lines. I see what you mean though as I also had the same problem with one of my cookies and I flooded it before applying the lace grid. I still need to learn to bake the perfect cookies. But this is what the challenge is about, going to trials and errors and learn. You did a wonderful job!

Thank you, @Manu biscotti decorati ! Up untill now the bumps on the cookies didn't bother me, because after I flood them it doesn't show, I just want the perfect edges. I don't like too much icing on the cookie and that's why I wanted them unflooded underneath. You are right - that's how we learn.

That was very useful, thanks a lot! It appears the challenges are good for learning new things not only concerning the cookie decoration. I found out that you already moved to sumer time on the 12th and we always do on the last Sunday of the month, which explains the difference. Thanks again and sorry for any inconvenience caused!

I never thought I'd say this, but that's a lot of lines! Did you pipe on the back of the cookie? I find that helps a lot to make the icing sit a bit more flat. Beautiful work. I love your needlepoint designs.

Wow, that means a lot coming from you, thank you so much @Sweet Prodigy !!! I never piped on the back of a cookie and I don't think it will help in my case, because I still bake on parchment paper and it gets wrinkled from the butter and it wrinkles the cookie back too. I'll get myself a silicon mat. Thanks for the advice!
