This bird house was so much fun to make . It's that time of year when we see a lot of birds and I always want to encourage their visits! I looked at a lot of different real bird houses for ideas along with decorated cookie versions and combined many elements to design this house.

I used a "wood grain" embosser to make the roof and corners of the bird house.  I mitered the edges for a better fit but had some issues with getting the mitering just right . It can be a little tricky.

The base of the bird house was made intentionally small as I saw many bird houses that had very small bases and wanted to be more realistic with that detail. I ran into some challenges after decorating all of the panels and then gluing them together as I had over decorated the panels (sometimes I don't know when I should stop. Lol.). I try to remember that less can be more but tend to get carried away with ideas that are floating around in my head. Even though I drew out the design before cutting the dough, etc. I found myself doing some decorating by the seat of my pants as ideas came to mind that I hadn't thought of during the design process.

Each 3D project is another opportunity for learning which is something I love! I should have taken more pictures along the way in the decorating process as the sides of the house ended up being more cluttered looking when I got the roof on. The roof hung over a little more than it probably should have in order to get a better view of the sides...

I gain a greater appreciation for cookiers who master the 3D construction process well. It's not quite as easy as it looks in a video . @Julia M. Usher makes it look so easy to fit everything together and accomplish the look of "more is more" without clutter!! That's truly a gifted artist. Thanks to you, Julia, for all the time and effort that goes into making videos of 3D projects along with everything else you do ❤️.

Gorgeous, Carol!

Thank you so much @Manu biscotti decorati! Your tips about mitering were helpful while I was working on this. I always appreciate all the work you put into your tutorials and want you to know how much I appreciate it and that I always read your tutorials at least 2 times . After decorating cookies for a couple/three years it's easy to feel like you've got a pretty good grasp of the basics. Then some project comes along and you realize that going back to the basics time and time again is important! It's paying attention to the details that make the difference between a good/so-so design and a really great cookie! That said, all reminders are more than welcome .

Thank you so much dear Zara @carouselselsel for your kind words! You always say such kind and encouraging words and I want you to know just how much I appreciate the time you take to look and then to comment. Hugs...❤️❤️

Thank you so much, Carol @Cookies Fantastique, I can imagine mitering the edges might have been very tricky here, not being a square box (mitering the edges of perpendicular sides at 45 degree angle it is the easier case)... but it is always good starting to try, as it brings ideas for the next project! Your bird house is gorgeous and it has a wonderful harmony in the proportions.

Beautiful house, details are amazing!

Thank you so very much!! I get lost in the details. Lol . This project took a long time from conception to completion. I get excited working on a larger project that requires me to stretch my decorating abilities and learn as I continue on. This bird house was that type of project for me .

Thanks again!!! You are so kind ❤️

Houses are always a fun but tricky projects, especially with such a shape. It's always interesting to see how they come to life ! Great work. ♥

btw... it took me a while to figure out, that the upper white balls/plant parts are not part of the bird house, haha.

Thanks so much for your comment . I appreciate your understanding of how challenging these projects can be and the time and effort involved...it is a lot of fun!!
