Christine, your pictures reminded me about my trip to Istanbul about 10 yrs ago. But that picture of the rugs led my mind to the Grand Bazaar, its colors and all the stuff displayed. So memory after memory, the "eyes" came to my mind. I know, the eye is a souvenir, and Turkey and all its beauties are more than this... I have other ideas to transform in cookies. My picture is full of them as if they were displayed or hanging in the bazaar.
Honestly I don't know, I think it is more " beginner's luck". The black, pale blue and white part is realized with wet-on-wet technique, in the center of the cookie. I then outlined the white with the dark blue and finished to flood the cookie (I would say wet-next-wet, lol). That's why the white it is not a perfect circle like it should be. I also tryed to do all wet-on-wet layers but at the end the cookie didn't have the nice flat surface like the real one, made of glass, has. The outcome was more like a 3D eye and it was ugly.
Well, you got me googling Turkish eyes! I saw images of hundreds of them hanging on bare trees. Pretty cool.
You got me googling as well "turkish eyes hanging on bare trees" and I saw the beautiful images took in Cappadocia region with that peculiar landscapes. I wish I had visited that places as well. I just saw the eyes hanging in the Bazaar, in the taxi or in some shops, I loved the colors, and I think I brought back a little bracelet for my (at that time) little girl.
Sorry I missed this when you first posted! Everyone could use an eye of protection (or 20) lol! And, the way you have these arranged, they look like some of the ceramic tile patterns!

LOL! You made me laugh hard, Christine! Yes, I baked and decorated way too many eyes of protection!!! But I was catched by the colors combination and had fun playing wet-on-wet!
I'm also impressed by the lack of color bleed with such rich colors! ...these cookies are proof positive that cookies need not be super intricate to be fantastic!
