What fun this walk down vintage lane has been! I loved the "Old look" of many floral designs I saw and tried to mimic the art used by artists long ago, both in the lovely pastels and in the shape of flowers and butterfly's. It almost seems as if the flowers and the insects have evolved and previously lovely form has changed.

Each cookie was prepared with a light wash of color and antiqued with a brown edge to age.

I used rice paper to water color on in order to get the "old art" look I wanted and then trimmed and colored the edges before adhering with RI to the cookie.

I studied old lettering and created a cohesive design using the words "peace, hope, love and joy" using a fine liner brush.

To add another element, I used fondant and candy pieces to create leaves and flowers and berries, as well as an altered mold for a golden embossed stamp. On the "love" cookie. The leaves were also "gold leafed" to make a vintage appearance.

Lastly I went back over each cookie and added fine line detail, to elegantly fill with a vintage feel.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I did making them! I must say, I have many new skills obtained by trial and error and experimenting with this set that will last always! Thanks for the great chance to grow, Christine and Julia!

Wow, they're beautiful. Truly vintage in all aspects, I do enjoy them and I keep going back to have one more look :-) very well done.

Thank you, love! I'm so glad to have hit the mark! My favorite set is always the one I'm working on (or just finished), so I keep going back to look at it too! hehe <3

Lovely! Though still not clear where and how the wafer paper was used. Could you clarify? Thanks!

I love to paint, and always feel like paper is an easier medium, so I completely painted the 3 larger flowers and the two butterflies with a fine liner brush. If the items are painted while the rice paper lies flat, it has less waving effect. As I painted, I laid flat things on top to further flatten till dry. When totally finished, I cut out the flowers and butterflies and painted the white edges black. I then painted the back of the applique with water-downed RI and put something on top to hold down. This in order to give a 3-D layered effect.

Also, are you using rice paper? Or wafer paper made with potato starch?

Uh, my bad, I have both, this was the wafer paper (potato starch)!

This set is so cool and so beautiful, Kim!  I love your wafer paper painting technique - It really does create such a perfect vintage painting feel. (Thank you for doing such a great job of explaining all of the techniques you used - fascinating to hear how you put this set together!).   And of course, the subject matter - vintage florals - is a perfect choice for the challenge.  Well done!
