What Are The Best Methods for Working with Rubber Stamps?

In your experience, what are the best ways of getting a sharp and even application of food coloring with rubber stamps? I have some ideas, but I'm interested to hear others' approaches. Check out the poll below and feel free to elaborate in the comments!

Apply the coloring directly to the stamp with a brush

Apply the coloring with an ink pad

Blot the ink pad to remove excess coloring before you stamp it

Rock the stamp side to side on the cookie

Don't rock the stamp side to side on the cookie

Use stamps that don't repel food coloring
