Hi,

I wanted to use CK products Luster Dust Super Gold on my cookies.  I'm only going to use a little bit on a flower on the cookie; however when I checked the CK website, it says this product is for "decorative purposes".  So, does this mean that it isn't edible?  The container says non-toxic but I'm not sure if I should use it on the cookie since I want the entire cookie eaten (I don't want the flower to be removed).  Are there products like this that are edible?

Thanks!

It means it's not FDA-approved, so you eat at your own risk and shouldn't serve consumers these dusts, probably even with warning.

But yes, there are lines of food-grade, FDA-approved dusts available. Many (if not all) of the Wilton pearl dusts are FDA-approved (though double-check the labels) and here's a site which claims a whole line of approved colors: http://www.lusterdust.com/pldufdaapbyc.html

I've used the Wilton dusts and they're fine; can't say anything about the quality of the latter.

As there's been more and more public outcry about the large-quantity use of luster dusts (particularly disco dust), I suspect we'll be seeing more and more food-grade versions coming available.

In fact, someone recently mentioned that Karen's Cookies is also carrying a new line, though I couldn't find it with a quick search of their site. Maybe someone else will have that link?
