After my royal icing (RI) dries and I go back to add details such as dots or an outline around the cookie, etc. . . . after the added detail dries and I touch the detail, it falls off the cookie. What do I need to do to fix the issue? I can't keep telling people to be gentle with the cookie. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi, brenda1209, Congrats on making your first post. I look forward to many more to come!
I’ve never heard that one before. I’m curious to hear what others say. Same icing?
My guess is the icing you are piping on top is too thick. There needs to be a certain amount of moistness to it to stick. So I'd try loosening it a touch next time. But, I agree with @Econlady, it's relatively uncommon for this to happen on an iced cookie. Much more common on a bare cookie.
Yes, same RI.
I've actually had my outlined icing break off in certain areas a few times. I tend to use a thicker icing so I know that's the reason it has happened to me. I agree with Julia, a thinner icing should fix the problem.
