Royal Icing Transfers Disintegrated

Hello,

I had made white royal icing transfers and let them dry completely over night so I could use them on my cookies the next day. So when the next day came I iced my cookies with red and black royal icing and then immediately placed my royal icing transfers on. The problem occurred when I started to notice that my transfers looked as if they were disintegrating/melting into my wet royal icing. I've seen other people use the technique of putting dried transfers on wet icing and I can't figure out what went wrong with mine. I would really love some input on this.

THANK YOU!

Thank you for the welcome! The icing used for both the transfer and flooding were from the same batch. I kept the icing I used for flooding the next day in an air tight container with cling wrap laying on top of the icing so no air touched it. Perhaps I should make a new batch the day of flooding? (i just feel like it would be a waste of icing if i can't use it all in one day)

Your flooding icing was probably too loose, which means it takes longer to dry. In this time, it can dissolve the transfers you put on top. Either put transfers on dry icing or use a thicker flooding icing to prevent dissolving.
