This was my second attempt at this cookie. I always draw a starter line down the center of the pattern as a guide, but on my first attempt the lines started curving inward at the top as each new line progressed outward. (I think the zig-zag pattern was throwing me off.) So for my second go at it I made small marks every half centimeter across and used those marks as a guide to help keep my lines parallel. But for the most part, I focus on the icing as it is touching down, moving my hand (ever so slightly) as needed to keep the lines parallel. I hope that helps but this is probably a process best explained in person....oh, and I hold my breath when I pipe!
