Happy Birthday, Manu!     She put a slice of watermelon on the cake!  How creative she is! ใ€€ By the way, as we know, real Manu makes perfect sunflowers and cookies.

Isn't painting hard?  It was harder than I imagined.  It took so long and still I don't know what to do to make it look better.   I hope it looks O.K.

Royal Icing:  I used 3 different  kinds of royal icing, well, I ruined 2 of them so I tried 3 different ones consequently.

1.  Meringue powder royal icing

2.  Dried egg white

3.  Egg white

I added 1 table spoon of corn syrup to each.   When I paint, the surface of No. 1 and 2 were ruined.  However the surface of No. 3 was good for me to paint.  It took longer of No. 2 to get dried.

โ€ปใ€€I used alcohol for the paint.

What a wonderful dimensional cookie, so carefully handpainted! And so much work with three kinds of royal icing!!!

@Ryoko ~Cookie Ave.your B-Day cookies have become a tradition after 4 years, but yet they are a sweet surprise every year, here on Cookie Connection that connected us! THANK YOU! I turn 50 today, but yes, when I decorate cookies I have the same enthusiasm of a little kid, with my mind open to fantasy and creativity. I see that there is also a gecko on the window!

(I live in Thailand and there are geckos ๐ŸฆŽ๐ŸฆŽ๐ŸฆŽ in my house that I keep chasing and putting outside in the garden, but it is a lost battle!!! When I moved in last year they โ€œateโ€ the royal icing on my cookies, ruining my project tutorial in the works! Thatโ€™s how I found out they love sugar... anyway I was relief to know they were the culprits and not a mouse ๐Ÿญ instead! )

Thank you @Kanch J@Heather Bruce Sosa and @Julia M. Usher For the birthday wishes.

Hi @Manu biscotti decorati

I have wanted to make a girl making cookies for 4 years on your B-day but I wasn't sure how.  Little Manu is really concentrated on making sunflowers and I am happy to make a clock with your favorite sunflower seed. The hand gives water to the seed and it grows.   I put gecko so when you see this cookie you will know it is when you are in Thailand.   Little Manu put skin of watermelon inside the cake  but it might be O.K.

Hi Zara, we could imagine little Manu making royal icing sunflowers.

Very interesting that the fresh egg white worked best. I will definitely keep that in mind next time I am doing a lot of painting. Maybe @Julia M. Ushercan give us a little of the science behind this?

I did not know you were also 50 this year, @Manu biscotti decorati! Welcome to the club.

I love these large-format cookies of yours that tell a story! I would never have thought that the green curtain ruffle was painted! Your color there is so consistent. I also think you did a great job of color blending for the large sunflower in the window and the shades of brown for the table. And come to think of it, all of the shading on little Manu is pretty terrific as well. I especially love how you did her little blushing cheeks! What a delightful entry this is!

I'm not sure I know the science behind this, but when egg whites are heated in pasteurizing or dehydrating (as in scenarios 1 and 2), the proteins are denatured (weakened), so I find icing made with fresh egg whites is stronger/more stretchy (has a higher tensile strength) and dries with more solidly with more of a sheen (which may lead to easier/better painting).

Thank you, Christine @Bakerloo Station.  I am learning a lot again.  I started looking at things very carefully for my paintings.  I painted the green curtain ruffles not only outside but also inside, too.
