Because there are soooo many challenges to choose from, I decided to start at the beginning.  Challenge 1, is all about inspiration.  The images pictured were evocative of a number of things but I honed in on the funky seventies vibe.  Particularly the macrame!  I have never done macrame – with either string or icing – but I do remember the trend.  I chose to make some relatively simple wall hangings, as royal icing transfers.

I went back and forth on the background.  I tried one that was a solid color, one that was elaborate like some of the pictured wallpapers and the one that was a hybrid.  I eventually settled on the hybrid.  It feels funkier than the solid but not quite as busy as the other.  The hangings are quite fragile as transfers but they were incredibly fun to make.  The possibilities are limitless.

I did a  lot of macrame work back in the day and these look just like it.  Really great!

Thank you Stevie.  Even though I didn't make it, I did like it.  I know I had a purse.  And, I'm pretty sure I had a vest.  Everyone had a vest. 😂

Excellent first entry - and inspirational image - choice! The background colors and pattern are really suited to your seventies theme. I especially like how the background compliments the delicate macramé work but does not overpower it.  Those macramé designs look very much like what people were making in the seventies, so bravo for authenticity. I really am in awe of those delicate royal icing transfers. How big is this cookie and what size are the transfers?

Thank you Christine. I had a blast.  It was hard not to think of you with string like work involved (macrame is much more forgiving!)  The cookie is roughly  5"x8 3/4". the transfers are about 1 1/2" x 2 3/4".

Wow! Thank you. That's a lot of intricate detail work for something so small. Your piping skills are very impressive!

Way to go on this first entry of this challenge! I bet those transfers are as fragile as you said, but they sure do add depth to the piece! Worth the added care!

Thanks Julia. In regard to fragile transfers - I’m getting shaky as I age so that really doesn’t help!😂😬

WoW! Absolutely great entry (the first?) So cool and beautiful macrame for the first time dear Lisa!!!   @LisaF

Thanks Gabi. Yes, it was the first challenge. I decided to start at the beginning and see how far I get. The macramé really felt like a blast from the past for me personally !😁
