How I made my molded cookies  (Princess Rose)

Dough:  I added 20% more flour to Springerle dough recipe.

1.  Dress for Princess Rose

dress

1  I molded the dress to see where I want to color.

2  I put green dough to the hem and ribbon but I found out that there was a gap between green dough and plain one.

3  I put green dough first, I removed the excess of green dough then I tried to fill the gap carefully with plain dough.

2.  Framed Picture of Princess Rose

framed picture

I used the first silicone mold for the frame and chocolate mold was used for Princess Rose.  I adjusted the size of Princess Rose to fit to the frame. I put it on the frame dough then baked.  Roses surrounding the Picture of Princess Rose were made by the mold of the third photo from left.

3.  Hat for Princess Rose

hat

I made a small half-ball for the hat then made hat shape dough.  I attached green ribbon made with green dough to the hat then baked.  I attached the baked roses made with colored dough.

4. Mirror for Princess Rose

mirror

  1. I cut out cookie dough with two cookie cutters. Mirror part was replaced by blue dough then I baked.
  2. Leaf mold is self-made. I used aluminum.  The mold looks O.K. but outcome was really blur.
  3. I used this mold for other leaves but I used just a part of the mold which looks like leaves.
  4. Roses were made with this mold (second from right).

5. Mixed Colored Roses and Leaves

howtorose

I made 2 colored dough.  I mixed them but I tried not to kneaded them much.  Leaves were made with No. 4 mold.

The molds I used:

pinkmold

I bought all those mold from internet store called “Ever Green” in Japan.

Please note that they sell their items to only domestic (Japan) and they may not reply to inquiries from overseas. They do not sell these molds for food to be molded (Food Sanitation Law).  I write this in Japanese for Japanese people. Ever Greenさんの型は食品用として販売していません。(食品衛生法)

cameo

I do not remember where I got this chocolate mold but it says the item number 90-5661 CK, which you might find somewhere, I hope.

selfmademold

The first mold is made by me, I used aluminum sheet (0.2mm thick).  I put it on hard sponge and used a nail with a blunt point. @Manu biscotti decorati showed us how to make mold very well.

Half-ball-shaped aluminum foil was used for the hat.

Amazing Ryoko! I like how you arranged all these molds together to make such a beautiful themed set! I also like the colored accents!

Manu, this challenge is so hard.  I always need a little story to make cookies.  Princess Rose loves roses and likes to walk in her rose garden, something like that, but while I am making these sets my dough smells lemon (I put too much lemon oil) not roses.   It was sooo hard.

Very ingenious and lovely set!

Julia, thank you.  This challenge is really hard to me, actually it is a pain in the neck since I still cannot find a way to be creative with molds.   I want to be out of box but this box is so hard to break.

Wow! I can't believe the amount of thought and detail that you put into this set. Everything is just beautiful.

Thank you, Christine.  I am haunted by cookie roses now.  I cannot think anything else.

Whenever I see your beautiful-line avatar, in my mind the following is repeated like a mantra, "I want to be able to line straight".   At least, steady line.   Woooops, it sounds like I can make curved lines.

Such a beautiful entry!  I love the wide variety of molds that you used, and that you used Manu's tips for creating your own metal mold!  Your comment describing your process is so helpful and incredibly detailed (as we have come to expect from you in these challenges!).  Please, tell me, did you freeze your dough in the molds and then de-mold before baking?

Thank you, Christine.

I did not freeze my dough at all.

What happened was I did not read "how to make Springerle dough" carefully and accidentally I put 20% more flour.  The result was my dough was like clay and it holded the shape very well.    Dough is not sticky at all.

I did not bake the dough in silicon mold.

1  I dust the mold with flour then push my dough into the mold in every hole and corner.  I really push it in a lot, like overflowing.

2  Since the silicon is soft, I  stretch and push the silicon from backside to take out the molded dough.  (de-mold before baking)

3  I dry it 1 day,  then bake.

Actually, I made some more with  a different mold, they hold the shape very well.  After I have read your comment, I think I should make one more entry so others can see the result.

I think straight lines just take practice. I wish we lived closer ( a LOT closer) so I could help and teach you. Then you could teach me how to make your beautiful cookie scenes!

Why are those cookiers I want to meet so far away from me?   I am sooo desperate and I thought I found the really good tools to line straight but they did not work.  Now I think what I thought was too funny.
