Does anyone experience dull royal icing colors after it dries? This has happened to me quite a bit...I use Americolor to color my icing. After flooding the cookie, I put them underneath a light and I use a fan. Is the heat from the light bulb maybe causing the colors to fade?

Hmmm . . . if anything, my colors get darker (and more intense) when they dry. The sheen on top of the icing, of course, dulls to a matte finish unless you pop the cookies in a dehydrator, in which case, they'll dry with more of a satin finish.
But, no I've never had colors fade unless the cookies sat for many months exposed to light. Can't explain what you're seeing.
How thin is your flood icing? I have noticed that very thin icing will dry dull sometimes.
Also, what icing recipe do you use? You might try another one and see if the problem goes away. I love Sugarbelle's royal icing recipe.

Hmmm, perhaps I will try Sugarbelles and see. I love her website! Do you also use the whip attachment or paddle?
I have always used the paddle and it whips up no problem.
I haven't had issue with dulling or fading of my icing regardless of the consistency ... when you put them under a fan are they drying evenly? Maybe what you think is fading is actually humidity spots? When the temperature changes with the season, the first few days I find I can see the humidity wreaking havoc on my cookies so I just adjust the air, and that seems to take care of the problem.
