Let’s wrap up this texture challenge so that we can all start brainstorming the "frankencookie" challenge!! I don’t know about you, but I love a good frankencookie . . .
First of all, thank you so much to Rebecca for allowing me to play guest host this month. All these beautifully creative entries just blew my mind! So, thanks to all of you for playing along.
Just as a recap, the challenge was to pull two sources of inspiration from this Pinterest board, and then work the TEXTURES into a set of cookies or cookie. We did ask you to comment on your sources of inspiration (totally as an afterthought!), to make sure that everyone was following the entry rules - and because, well, we were just dying to know! Thank you for doing that - it was appreciated!
Our prize this month - four stencils donated by Killer Zebras from her new Etsy shop. I did get my hands on a few, and I’m so excited to use them! The winner of the stencils is, drum roll please. . .
Flowers on the Beach by JackieLynn
"Flowers on the Beach" was a favorite among our contributor panel as well. For a first attempt at making a cookie scene, she did an amazing job! The use of the brown sugar, candy rocks, and pitted royal icing really contrasts the smoothness of the sea, creating a horizon. All on one cookie!! Congrats to Jackie!
And from the contributors, we have our top ten for the Saturday Spotlight!
Lily Fountain by Bakerloo Station
"Eye-catching". "Jaw-drop in wonder". "Brave new technique!" "Never seen anything like this!" Need I say more??
Pebbles and Flowers by Belleissimo Cookies
We love everything from the color of the nonpareils, to the clean contrast of the flowers, to the shape of the cookies in this set. Wonderful work!
Mr. and Mrs. Frankenstein Get Married by Compassionate Cake
This set is so detailed that every time I look at it, I see something new. All of the techniques that were incorporated into this set – from the painting to the airbrushing to the cookie crumbs - make it magnificent!
Spooky View by Michelle west Sion
We love that this cookie appears to glow with its own light. Warm and rich, yet spooky! Excellent airbrushing and layering of royal icing!
The Four Seasons by Love Bug Cookies
Love the colors on this set of cookies, each one conveying a different season. The flower mosaic, made from candy sea glass, is our favorite!
Bowl of Texture by Liesbet
One of the things that we love about this cookie is that we knew instantly which photos inspired the cookie. The red detailing from the flower, and the center of the bowl from the bamboo wall. Great 3-D cookie!
It's Fall Y'all! by Cadillac Cookies
Not only is this a super fun set, but we love that she was able to take the textures and apply them to a completely different theme – a fall festival! So much texture going on here!
Tabletop and Bamboo by RH. BAKE
We love that this cookie was very cleanly executed and done all in royal icing! The coloring on the bamboo section draws your eye into the cookie, and the wood grain ties it all together. Wonderful!
Textures of the Rainforest by Sweet Ellie Belle Cookies
The composition of this piece feels very "real" with the waterfall almost giving the appearance of movement. My favorite detail in this set is the tiny rocks, incorporated under the log.
Halloween Pumpkins by Tina at Sugar Wishes
Love the array of pumpkins! Each one is so unique in its presentation, yet you can see where Tina pulled inspiration from the different flowers on the board to incorporate them into the design.
And that’s a wrap! I hope you enjoyed the recap and are already thinking about this month’s challenge!
Kari Arroyo started decorating cookies in 2011 after deciding to take a break from nursing, and learned the ways of royal icing by reading tutorials and LOTS of trial and error. When she’s not decorating cookies, you can find her chasing after two busy boys! Check her out on Facebook or her site, and email her your cookie questions at yankeegirlyummies@gmail.com.
